when I married my wife she was 16 and I was 25. when she filed for me she was 18. At the visa interview the officer asked me what was her age when we got married. Then he said WOW and looked really shocked , and asked if that was legal. I told him it was legal in Alabama :). few minutes later i was approved for IR-1 visa.

Good luck.

Wow, that's wonderful, what an interesting experience!! Cheers :P

How much do they look at the age difference, I am from Canada and my Fiancee is from the US and we have about 17 years difference between us. Is that going to cause a problem?

No one can ever say because they will NEVER refuse a visa, if you are by age, eligible for the visa. If they question the age difference, they will document another reason (ie.. lack of bonafide relationship) to refuse the visa. It will never be specifically documented as age gap.

YMMV

I say be prepared for any type of question. Stand your ground. Our experience was positive but there was a women at the Nicaraguan Embassy that asked my husband and I a few personal and somewhat judgmental questions. For example: Why didn't you all in love with a girl in your community? How did you guys communicate?...once she saw all my flight tickets she changed her tune. Evidence is key. We have an age difference which may have been why she was so intense about her questions. My husband was a little shocked but handled her rudeness. Good Luck!

I was 23 by the time of the interview, and my husband is 10 years older then me. It was in Brazil, and there were no questions regarding our age, or age difference. But like others said, they might ask.

I remember that the interviewer asked "why do you want to get married?" and I answered "because we love each other", and there was a kind of "obvious question" silence while he checked papers, which was kinda funny. Other questions he made was about my husband (fiance), nothing specific, he just wanted me to say things about him! It was difficult, I mean, I had to pick whatever characteristic of him came to my mind, and I was expecting specific questions. And other then that... I felt awkward to tell a total grumpy looking stranger about the man I love, I mean, you are there all happy an nervous at the same time, saying personal things, and he is there looking super serious and not smiling with you. So if you can train at bus stops and other public places with unknown people who don't personally care about your story, it could help you!

Another awkward moment: When I entered the room, a question struck my mind: is this interviewer a consul? Is it some sort of authority and I should wait him ask me to sit? So I didn't sit until he asked, which I know he thought was super weird by his face.

Sooo... don't worry! Even weird young ladies like me can pass the interview with age differences

Oh and it was in Brazil. It is not uncommon for women to be younger then man on a marriage, so maybe because of that the age difference was not directly mentioned.

The thing that they will look at most is your proof of your ongoing relationship. Large age difference do get questioned often at the interview but 7 years difference won't even be mentioned.
