I had talked to the senators office a month ago. The caseworker said to allow 21 days for the RFE to be processed. I called on 21 days. I was told to wait until 30 days (big suprise here). Today was 31 so I called again. He was quite short with me but said he would call for an update. The thing is, I dont know if he had the original email I had sent (which he originally called me on the next day and was quite sympathetic then) but when I hung up I realized he didnt even take my name, number, or case (if he had the email thats ok, but he seemed to not care at all). I called back and when I id'ed the person came back and said we was 'unavailable'. Hmmmm I had just hung up from him. I got his voice mail and left my information again. I am betting this goes nowhere but I just wanted to put this out there....If I hear something I will update everyone.

Follow up with an e-mail, referencing the call today. It may not help, but chances are you might have just caught this guy on a bad day. Sounds that way to me, because when you spoke last, he seemed concerned.

I called both senator's offices - I even went back to the mean one who I originally dealt with months ago when I was trying to get IMBRA information. (They showed my cased as "closed" as of August 8 meaning that their office was finished with me - interesting since they did nothing but more expect tell me to be patient.) I told them to reopen it and contact CSC for an update - we'll see if they do it.

I also just contacted my local congressional rep (or whatever the correct term is). Dwar49 had good luck with the congressmen and vivamexico always says they are less busy than senators.

Good luck to all of us . . .

Your senator's office almost certainly has call display. They would also have started a file based on your earlier call. While he should definitely have asked your name even if he did have call display, it is quite likely he will be able to match your request up with your file without much difficulty from the call display information. He could also have been on another line when you called back and was therefore 'unavailable'. Hope he gets back to you soon.

Explain the case being shown as closed? CSC showed your case being closed? Did the Senators office tell you this are did you see it somewhere?

Not that CSC showed the case as closed - that the mean senator's office showed it as closed. Meaning, the very mean woman who returned my call about my inquiry several months ago called me back and basically told me to be patient. (She actually said "are you aware that many people get stuck in name checks that can last up to a year? Consider yourself lucky". To which I said "actually, other people's situations have no bearing on my current status so it isn't relevant to me". So my assumption is that since she returned my call and did "all she could", she was then free to check me off her list and close my case at her office. Never mind the fact that at that time, she said she would make another inquiry in two weeks and call me back, but she never did.

So no real case closed - just another incompetent government office.

You might find better reception and help at your Representative's office. Unfortunately the way our government is set up, the senators tend to only care about what PAC's, big-money, and the news-worthy interests are asking of them. A representative is a little more beholding to his/her constituents. My representative's office is drafting a letter of "support" for my girl to include in her packet, and he said he will call the embassy as our interview date approaches (not holding my breath on that one). The congressman's aid typically responds to my eMail within 24-hrs, and returns my phone calls as well.
