I always thought they were purebred master race Yorkshire - but 18 months ago I discoveed a Dubliner fugitive sheep thief called Michael Casson, a Welsh woman by the name of Sarah Bevan, and that others had come from Hereford in the Saxon Midlands. It seems only about 40% of my genes are Viking and from the Yorkshire kingdom of Eric Bloodaxe. I am still trying to adjust. It's like Mr O discovering that he is a Kenyan.

Coldest wettest windyest holiday I ever had was in August on the Lizard. When it's nice, Britain is UNBEATABLE - but when it isn't - aaarrrgghhhh !!!!

lol I imagine by now there are very few people who are truly one thing or the other. I would love one of those DNA tests, only my paternal grandmother's family is fully Cornish so I have no idea what the rest of them are.

My mother makes me facepalm, she's hoping Miles (with his AA father's tallness) will become the first half Cornish major basketball player. Besides, she should know we never achieve anything big, Trevithick was a long long time ago and Brenda Wootton doesn't count. I'm down with that, "it's no bad thing to celebrate a simple life"*

I really hated those days that were so misty, it wasn't actually raining but you would come back wet. On the plus side some of the weather was so dramatic against the skyline. Tintagel is my favourite place ever, I don't blame them for milking the whole King Arthur thing for the tourists.

At GCSE level you'll learn about Henry 8th, Elizabeth 1, the world wars and maybe the civil war. Slavery doesn't get taught at all, at least it wasn't when I took the class.

I wish I had taken it as GCSE, we could only choose 2 of our own because it became mandatory to do double science. Before that we did some overall study on American history including black slavery, but it was no doubt pretty shallow. We did some Cornish history, relating to the Roman occupation including a visit to Chysauster, I wish there had been more than that. Everyone should get some teaching on local history.

* I'm done nerding now.

I love this digging in history - I only found out yesterday that Brits were sent to America then auctioned off as slaves - I thought they were simply penal colony workers - but no it was 'privatised'

The cornish of course have lots of DNA from Brittany and Portugal and may have wheat allergies. They discovered that the Austrians (Celts) are related to the celts of the British Isles and share many allergies..

Do your eyebrows go straight across if you don't pluck em. The Celts are very dark...

As ignorant as we are, at least we weren't brainwashed in school with our hands on our hearts and a bloody great flag with an eagle on it stood in the corner of the room - and told to recite a mantra. I think that 'turning' an American to open mindedness in comparing the US to anywhere else on an objective basis is as hard as convincing a Jehovah's witness that they should be an atheist.

Impossible - it's too deep - done too early

Maybe I had an uncommon American upbringing -- we did do the pledge of allegiance and anthem singing and flag raising while I was at public school, but we were also told to think about what these words and actions meant, and to determine our own feelings about them. Heady stuff for 8 year olds! Of course once I was sent to posho school across town we did away with such niceties and spent the time saved figuring out how to be good little socialist soldiers fighting for the overthrow of the gubbermint.

When you say "overthrow" is what you really mean granting amnesty to illegal aliens and paying poor people to vote your way?

Christ on a bike. No, we were being taught the golden rule, the value of charity, and the concept of mens sana in corpore sano. To honour our elders and take care of ourselves and each other.

And then at recess we were handed the Little Red Book and watched filmstrips of Che in action.

I would have to examine your brain after a long Californian primal scream session to see if any brainwashing remains.

I would test this by hypnotising you and then I would put a postman's uniform on and wake you to see if you looked at me and then adopted a soppy expression and said 'thank you for your service'.

Californian's didn't invent primal screams - when I got back to my car in Howarth and it had a 'boot' affixed when I wasn't out of parking time - well you could have heard me in Whangarie

I would then show you slides of the constitutions of 500 countries and ask you if any part of any of them had merit and if you wished the US constitution incorporated just any part of any one of them. Only then could you be cleared as an open minded unbrainwashed person.

Jesse Ventura (an American ex navy seal and State Governor) is my idol even though he is not without flaws. He has seen the world and his eyes are open and he tells it like it really is. He would heap more derision on all this rah-rah stuff than I do

Wow. Am I the only one who's turned on by this?

That explains a lot.

Seriously, I think we're really starting to get away from catching them while they're young. There was so much good propaganda when I was little. Now with the internet and YouTube and all that junk, we are seeing kids who think they should read the Little Red Book in order to truly understand how America works.

The only problem with guys like Jesse is they're so keen on doing what's right and necessary they're missing the boat on how politics are played. They can't win without defeating the system first. I'd love to see him and others do it, but until they figure out how fickle american voters are, they don't stand a chance.

Women all over the world wanted to see films of Che in action.

Many of them saw it only in ceiling mirrors

Them stinky cigars would be banned in California though

My fav restaurant in Leeds is called CUBA and is festooned with photos of CHE

We dont get that here east of the cascades and I can't go to the Cuba now to check it out without being deported ...

I would have thought that Americans would encourage their citizens and GC holders to go there and see how bad it is in comparison.

Too late - the rah rah days are over and the US's future is non-white and liberal and cannot be stopped.

Sarah may get her finger on the nuclear trigger next time but that will be the last election for white god nuts (whether she pushes it or not).

I am learning more advanced Spanish and buying some brylcreem coz I ain't no diana-saw

Slim, is sarcasm some alien concept to you?

The aliens have already been here and it's highly probable they'll come back someday. Some even say they're amongst us right now waiting on a good time to strike.
