Hello all,

Today my sweet little fiance lands and I will be on vacation all next week from work so I would like to know where to go next...

Apply for marriage license I think is the first thing, right?

Get married :)

Apply for SSN? when can I do that?

AOS..? I guess I will do that in July when I have the $$$$

When applying for AOS, is that the green card application process? Or is that separate? (sorry, beginner question)

Driver's license?

Thanks for all your help, I just need to be steered in the right direction here :)

Yay! that's exciting!

yes first thing definitely take care of getting married.

and yes, AOS is to get the green card. read the guides on the top of the page :)

SSN and DL might be tough depending on the state you live in.

Some people have been turned down and told to wait until GC is in hand.

Good luck !!

The excitement is just jumping off the post!! I love it! Congratulations

If you're going to get married right away, wait on the SS card so that it comes with her new name on it...saves you a trip to the SS office..lol. Get your marriage license and get married within 90 days. After the 90 days is up (or before if you can), she will apply for AOS (which is basically greencard application). You can also do advance parole (which allows her/him to travel before the greencard arrives) and EAD (employment authorization-self explanatory) at the same time without being charged extra. In our case, we got the greencard straight away, no AP or EAD. But I would still do it if she wants to work...just in case!

Good luck to you! Everything gets better once she's here :)

Have a great weekend!

just a question in the dark, usually how long does it take until she gets her greencard? I'm not sure how long it takes.

Back in the day there were always these "rules", greencard in 3 years or less and citizenship in 5 or something like that. Is that still the case?

Usually 3 months, sometimes more like 6 months.. could even be longer (one girl waited 2 years)... depends on when you apply etc.

Citizenship, if she's still married to you she can apply after 3 years (minus 90 days) to become a USC. Otherwise it's 5 years (minus 90 days).

Read the AOS thread in my signature. Once you marry her file the paperwork. Done.
