if that's your case for American becoming some sort of socialist enclave, you aren't presenting a very convincing case. Your "flag" example is a case in point.

What on earth do you base these preconceptions on?

It is stated Socialism is opposite of Capitalism because of the negative effects each has on it's self.

Socialism in itself is more in direct contrast to individualism of a person; in which it directly affects capitalism.

Have you read "Habits of the Heart" (very hard read to me anyway)

Also common sense although I am not an educated person I do read and formulate my own opinions.

Amercia became strong due to the individual immigrants that came here to live. By excercising their individualities they brought culture, broadened education and inovatve ideas were acted upon.

All this was done with a balance of socialism.

My ideas in regards to Obama adminsitration and how it is acting is open to everyone to see. Their actions are playing the media and spouting propaganda before reviewing facts.

You could say that about any country - you think the US is the only country that balances socialism and capitalism?

Despite what loud mouthed, know-nothing media pundits might claim, socialism is not the enemy, nor is captalism.

The way this subject gets talked about on here anyone would think we're 6 months away from communist takeover.

The OP came from a Right Wing "Think Tank" (propaganda machine) that calls itself, Accuracy in Media, or AIM. These are the same folks who spent millions on trying to find a connection between then President Clinton and the death of Vincent Foster. AIM even went as far as to say that Foster had been murdered. AIM is so extreme Right that they even went after Rupert Murdoch over his alleged connection with the Clintons and how it was affecting Fox News coverage. Richard Mellon Scaife, who has spent millions of his own money in trying to destroy Bill Clinton is one of AIM's main financiers.

The US has a bizarre fear of the 'S' word which doesn't translate into anything tangible.

Perhaps people in the US are too used to idealogues and sensationalist news media commentators.

Are your unemployment benefits about to run out?

This criticism comes from Steven, who favors the most left-wing sick fantasy bile he can find to post here :bonk:

The issue isn't whether a source is Left or Right leaning, but pretending to something they aren't (media watchdog), instead of being upfront with what they really are (think tank). There have been plenty of articles I've posted here from the Cato Institute and other Conservative think tanks.

Same old game. When you can't argue the message, go after the messenger. :bonk:

But can we not all see that the message being presented here is rather rubbish?

Are your unemployment benefits about to run out?

Have you run out of forties?

Gezz I wonder why Pike would defend someone who goes after the messenger rather than argue the message.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Then argue the point. Merely saying it doesn't make it true.

Merely posting a blog op-ed article doesn't make it "true" either - certainly not when it is based on a false premise (that the US government is trying to suspend free market capitalism and replace it with some undefined "socialist" system) that isn't supported by any facts.

I didn't "defend" Steven, I don't need to. He may well have his own agenda, but that's entirely separate from this "article" being a bag of ####### (rather the same collection of spurious half-truths that we've heard here a dozen or more times before on here in relation to numerous political figures).

Left or Right don't matter? Let me quote you back to you: The OP came from a Right Wing "Think Tank" (propaganda machine)

No doubt you will post something from the Right if it gives you an opportunity to demean the Right.

What would you call facts? An announcement from the Oval office that the administration is engaging in a socialist takeover of the federal government?
