Netbook ?!?!??!?!

No - you want one of these - http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/10/onkyos-dx-dual-screen-laptop-is-a-far-better-deal-than-kohjinsh/

I just sent off the order for 40 units last week, to be used as prizes in a nationwide computer programming competition.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

A netbook is a great backup and accompaniment to a laptop. For emails, and simple websurfing, and setting people straight here, a netbook is a great addition.

I will learn from Mark's mistake of eagerly buying 2 iPads during the hype season. Instead, I will wait till the hype dies down and buy my iPad when they drop the price $75 bucks. You know they will.

:star:

Personally I think they are overpriced by more than $75. My initial thought is you're paying for the wow factor, but maybe I've got it wrong. The ipad starts at $$499 for the 16 gb model. You can buy a netbook with the new Atom processor and 250gb hard drive for about $350-375. An iPad with 32gb of storage is $599.

I don't deny that the iPad is a really neat device and I do like it. The touch screen is outstanding, but why so much money? Is it the wow factor or the perceived exclusiveness?

no, I haven't...

can the Ipad do all the stuff a Netbook can?

Before I actually looked at an iPad, I thought it was a dumb idea. After playing with one, I changed my mind. I think the iPad is overpriced for what it is. But it is a hellava lot more fun to use than a netbook, and this is coming from someone who wouldn't even look at an Apple product. I think that the netbook would be better for any kind of extended typing due to it's physical keyboard, but for picture viewing and youtube, booke reading etc, the iPad is better. Check one out and let me know what you think. Most of the BestBuys sell them if you don't have an Apple store near you. I'm really on the fence with this one.

There are two things that are deal breakers for me for the iPad (nevermind the price)

1. It can't multi-task.

2. It doesn't do flash.

Turns out that I like things which do flash- like watch Hulu, or play silly games.

I also tend to do more than one thing at a time. IM people and surf, or watch hulu..etc.

All netbook and iPad users please report.

Bought my son a netbook..only drawback I have seen is the lack of CD or DVD drive... If he needs to access a CD or DVD he needs to get it through my laptop or server as the device is shared over our intranet.. Aside from that.. its worth the 280 I paid... I got it at TigerDirect.com last month..

There are no real storage issues since he can save things to our external hard-drive that is shared through the server... but its not intended to be a storage device.. he got it to use for school.. small...light... fast enough for what he does... WC and mic are god when used for video conferencing also...

He Yahoo video called me from school the other day and it was like looking and talking through a window with the new version of Yahoo Messenger...

Regarding the CD/DVD, I always make Isos and load them via a thumb drive.
