Good morning all. My question is about filing AOS and sending in a personal check. My checks still have my maiden name on them and a previous address. My name has been changed with my bank and address updated. The bank still honors my old checks. Do I need to mark out my old address and put the address that matches the AOS paperwork? Also, would it be okay to sign my married name although the checks still show my maiden name? Normally this wouldnt be questioned but when dealing with immigration I dont want anything to cause it to be returned. I really wanted to use a personal check instead of a money order so I can see when it is cashed. Thanks.

We sent checks having my wife's maiden name and our old address on it. We did not update her married name or address with the bank before sending our AOS. USCIS cashed the check with no problems. We did not receive any RFEs also.

You'll be fine. Just make sure you 1) Make out the check properly, 2) Pay the correct amount, and 3) Mail your AOS to the correct address. Good luck with your journey!

I also sent the check with my maiden name & old address (from more than 2 years ago - time for new checks! Ha) I have changed my name on my ID & SS card but not with the bank yet, so I signed with my maiden name. I think either way they will cash the check - I wouldn't worry about it too much as long as the check is filled out correctly.

The government only wants your money. Do whatever it takes to have that check be valid and able to be cashed and they will do that quickly (the only quick thing they can do in the entire immigration process!!!).

Some use P.O. box address, some use address for express mail. The decision is yours.

I used USPS flat rate envelope with delivery confirmation.

We mailed to PO Box - if you send it priority mail it will still get there in 2 days & you can get delivery confirmation, but you'll pay less than for express/overnight.

As I had updated myself in the bank system and changed my signature to my married name I had to sign in my married name. I had no issues.
