SSN and AOS (K1 Visa)

Hello!

Do we have to have a social security number in order to apply for the AOS after entering the US territory on a K1 visa or can we just apply for a ssn after having sent the AOS package?

You don't need the SSN to fill out the AOS paperwork.

You do not need an SSN to file AOS, HOWEVER, if you want a SSN in order to open your own bank account, go on health insurance etc, then you only have until 14 days before your I-94 expires.

Some people have experienced issues getting it in their married name before obtaining their GC/EAD so you may need to get it in your maiden name in order to get it before your I-94 expires.

Up to you but no, not needed for AOS.
