most of that depends on the age of the cat. you'll also need to comply with the shot requirements of usda and perhaps your state.

I brought my 6 cats with me - it was a 2 day drive and stressful for them - but I couldn't have left them behind. They are my family!

You will need a rabies certificate if the kiten is older than 6 months as well as a veterinarian certificate since he/she will be flying. You will want to check with the airlines to ensure they will transport the kitten and what their criteria are. You should also check on line with the DOS requirements for importing animals. Normally cats and dogs are fine although they do have to be a certain age and in good health. Good luck with your kitten - it will be stressful yes, but only you will be able to decide if it is too stressful or not. You may be able to have the kitten travel in the cabin, but I don't know about international flights.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Do you need the permission of the parents?

To most people pets are members of their family. That could be like telling the OP to leave their kid, and just get a new one when they get here. Animals are not accessories. When you commit to providing a home for one you take on a responsibility.

To the OP, sure the travel will result in some stress for the animal. But unless you can find it a home with people you know well and trust to give it the care you have provided, you should bring it with you. In the long run it will be better for the kitten.

When people post 'free to good home' they can often end up in just the opposite.

I would also like to add/reiterate that if it comes to selling the pet, it is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to make sure the new owner has paid for it. Giving away a pet is a surefire way to ensure it's abused in the future.

But I am very much hoping you are able to bring your smallest family member to the US!

A lot of the requirements will depend on the kittens age. If the kitten is over 12 weeks or 3 months of age, she will need to have a rabies vaccine in addition to a veterinary certificate and will need to fly in an airline approved crate.. Airlines have heat embargos so most won't start flying pets again until the weather drops below 80/85F.

I flew my Border collie puppy from Dublin to Dallas and it was easy to do, and a lot of other people also fly their pets so its not uncommon :)

My Cat had a nervous breakdown to adjust to it's new home. It took it a month to be able to explore the whole house. For the first few days it stayed in one room. There are sites if you google it that tell you how to make the adjustment easier. I wish I would have known before hand because it was very traumatic for our cat. But she is fine now.
