Arizona Passes "Changes Bill" To New Immigration Law

I think a lot of people, myself included, would drop their protests of this law if Jan had changed "lawful contact" to simply "arrest" instead of "lawful stop, detention or arrest"

That still would not address how a USC arrested by an ignorant backwoods cop who decides the USC "could be illegal" proves his status, given that the AZ law won't accept out of state DL's as evidence.

What I'm getting at by changing the term to arrest is that police can only begin to look at a person's status if they have been arrested for a crime. Like this:

Your stopped for a tail light...the police can not look at your status yet....but they see drugs through the rear window..they arrest them for drug possession. Now they may look into their status while you wait in county lock up.

So if using your term "an ignorant backwoods cop" stops you the only way your going to get handed over to authorities is if you are under arrest for a specific crime, from DUIs, to illegal fire arm, to drug possession, to soliciting prostitution....and so on.

Then there is no difference between a USC, an LPR, and an illegal immigrant...while sitting in jail under arrest for a crime they look up your status....you won't even know unless they come back and tell you that you are illegal or that your an LPR who has failed to carry their GC.

Makes sense. Thanks.

Legal Aliens are required to have their valid GC or Passport with current I 94 with them at all times.
