hi

i am about to send in ds-230 package. but a police certificate came in a sealed enveloped and my wife were told not to break the seal..

do i still need to make a copy of it? or can i just send it as it is without a copy?

thank you.

hi murukun i dont know which country are you from what is the rule of your country about police certificate but in normal way police certificate is just a normal certificate which mention your character and your cleareance if we talking about nvc rule no there is no restriction about police certificate you can open your enveloped and check the validity of police certificate because some country have a 3 month validity and some country have 6 month validity you must check your validity because at the time you are on nvc processing stage because you have nvc stage to interview stage total 4 to 6 peroid month scheduled left becoz you dont know exactly when your interview will scheduled its really 6 month or its really 4 month left if your police certificate is only validity 3 month so at the time of your interview this police certificate is useless for you and embassy and nvc so iam suggest you call nvc first confirm benificiary country law that nvc required seal enveloped or without seal enveloped requried and please set your country and your visa status on forum board

Mustafa - rarely do police certificates actually have an expiration date on them. The 3 or 6 or 12 month validity is at the descretion of the consulate. Some require more recent police certificates, others do not. Ours did not have an expiration date (most don't) and Montreal had a 1 year validity on police certificates. At the interivew, mine was 10 months old and they requested another one so it is strictly at the descretion of the consulate

muruKun - call NVC before you do anything. Since you do not mention your country of the beneficiary, call NVC and speak to a live person about what to do.

Good luck.

Please disregard the above statements as they are either misleading or outright false. If the envelope is intended to remain sealed, do not open it. An expiration date on a police certificate carries no meaning for a Consular officer. They only care about the issue date.

ya - it's kinda hard, right ?

NVC asks for 'regular photocopy' of that document, in the 'original docs requirement section', but you might have a police certificate thingie that's not only SEALED, but prolly has some NVC or Consular 'address' on the outside of the envelope.

--You won't get 'tagged' at NVC for NOT supplying a copy of the PCC.

--You don't need to maintain a COPY of this document, unlike the birth or marriage certificate

--I suggest you don't sweat it, at all

Usually, if you supply 1--original and 2--photocopy, you get back the original document on interview day. You don't need the PCC after interview day, so IMO, this is a moot issue for ya.

Good Luck !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.
