As a claims adjuster, I can tell you for a certainty that Uninsured motorist property damage is NOT a compulsory coverage, and is not even available as an option in most states (there are a few that have them, but just a few). Every state DOES have Uninsured motorist bodily injury coverage, but that obviously doesn't cover your car.

Thanks for clarifying! I never meant to imply it was compulsory, though, so I apologize if it came across like that. I just thought it was getting to be more routine, but it seems like that depends more on varying circumstances (where you live, etc).

LOL, you have NO idea how much insurance laws vary!!!! I'm in Connecticut, and I always joke that if I ever get in an accident in new york where I'm not at fault, I'm gonna hope it's darn close to the CT border, because in NY they have no fault insurance and something called verbal tort threshhold which basically means you cannot make an injury claim unless you missed more than six months of work, broke a bone, or become permanently disabled. Here in CT, I can sue over a hangnail or broken eyelash (not that I would, ). However, we don't even have the OPTION of UMPD..... Rhode Island does, but only if the uninsured person is identified, not a hit and run.....

OK, now that you know more than you EVER wanted to about auto insurance, I'll shut up....

Happy

Jayke

I thought I would update everybody. I am ok. I checked out ok. My car is a different story. Its not that bad I guess but it was such a good car and I am afraid it will never be the same. It will cost at a minimum of $2,200 to fix. Unfortunately, it happened in an incompetent police department jurisdiction and I still can't get a police report. Therefore, the other girl's insurance won't do anything until we get the police report. I call every day and its still not ready. Now I drive around with a really broken car. It will take over 2 weeks in the shop to fix. They will have to replace the driver's side door, the entire panel in the front, hood, and the front passenger side. They are still unsure what is happening with the engine and won't estimate on that until they can take it apart. :(

I guess now it is pure frustration.

I hope you went to see a doctor!! You never know when medical problems are going to come down the road... I had two slipped discs from my car accident in 2000 and I felt fine right after the accident. I just had surgery this october to repair them.

glad you are OK, because you are feeling good to post.

(F)

I was feeling lightheaded when I came to work. My insurance adjuster said to go to the hospital this afternoon which I will.

Glad you're ok. May I ask the make and model of your car?

I just looked up - it received 4 out of 5 stars for driver's side impact safety (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). Good thing.
