Please help with DS-230

Could anyone here please help me with question 43 of DS-230?

Under the statement "Do you want the SSA to assign....", I checked "NO" and on 43b, I checked "NO". All these checks are ok if I wanna apply Social Security Card for my wife when she get here?? Or I have to check "YES" to all these, and apply for her SS card later when she get here?

just check YES on both, I don't see the point of answering NO when you know your wife will need an SS number anyway.

the DS230 should be answer by the applicant. only part 1 to answer. part two will be answer on her interview. The 43b is in Part 2 but your wifey should answer it yes.

@Matt: I think we should complete 2 parts of DS-230, sign part 1 and don't sign part 2.

you dont need to answer Part 2 only part 1 but you still need to send it without answer and sign!!!

Umm I confused as weLl.

We sent in the ds230 part 1&2 both pages were filled out except for the very bottom that for signature and officer stuff.

WOW this got me confused as well... I re-read the entire form and we're supposed to answer:

- ALL questions on PART 1 and sign PART 1.

- ALL questions except #45 on PART 2.

- DO NOT sign PART 2.

Part2 is pretty clear, it says this at the bottom:

"DO NOT WRITE BELOW THE FOLLOWING LINE

The consular officer will assist you in answering item 45.

DO NOT SIGN this form until instructed to do so by the consular officer"

If the applicant has never applied for a SSN, answer NO and then directly below, answer YES you want a number signed and a card mailed.

Definitely fill out part II through line 44 ahead of time and wait to sign it until the Consular officer asks you to.
