Hi guys,

I'm full time college student. I'm planning to married this coming summer overseas, and I'm not sure if I be able to support my wife finacially. I still collect unemployment during year and half.Plus, all my tuition and book have been pay by the program that I'm going through"training program".Aslo, I have decent saving account with checking account, I pay all my taxes. I made good income in last 3 years,I'm sure it is over the poverty line.I have a car that has been paid off. The only thing that I'm worring about is job. I haven't work since last year, I have been laid off for a year and half. With all this condition, can I still support my wife?

I appreciate any advice.

Thanks

Thank guys for the respond,

Like I said, I have enough money in bank to support my wife, I pay all my bill including rent. My only problem is job. I cannot find good job around here; however, finding good job in my area can be challenge. Also, I make about 1000 a month on unemployment after taxes. if i add money in bank, and what I make on unemployment, I can be able to support her.Plus, it over the poverty line.

Again I appreciate your guys advice :)

At minimum you would need three times the income shortfall in liquid assets but with unemployment being temporary, we have little data on just how an individual Conoff is going to consider this income. Your best bet is to get a job, even for 10 bucks an hour, or get a joint sponsor. That is, unless your bank account has more that three times $18,212 in it.

Thank you pushbrk.

You think part time job with 10 boxes an hour should be enough income? and what do you mean by "bank account has more that three times $18,212 in it."? what exactly the amount that I need to have in bank in order to support her without having job?

Last time I check the poverty line was $14.500 for 2 people.

I'm just wondering if the idea of not have job could be an issue.

Thanks again, :) :)

14,500 is at 100% poverty line - only military personnel can use that, you have to go with the 125% so it is 18, 212.

That is the correct calculation of the minimum requirement for a household of two but there is only a guarantee you won't qualify when you don't meet the minimum, never a guarantee you WILL qualify. Consular officers are given broad leeway in making this area.

Yes but people with clearly bona fide relationships are denied on public charge concerns even when they "meet the minimum". Again, not meeting the minimum guarantees failure. Meeting the minimum guarantees nothing. It's not a goal line you cross but rather a subjective judgment call by a Consular officer.

The decision to approve or deny is basically ALL subjective for the CO. They are the beneficiary's GOD for a day.
