Does anyone else feel like a bum sitting at home doing nothing? Pretty much everyday I apply for a job yet noone bites. Before I had an excuse of not having my green card. Now that I do, it feels even worst to stay home doing nothing. Can't even enjoy time off if you don't have any money.

@MP: don't worry for the dress, try plenty, have fun, when you'll find yours you'll know! good.gif

yea thats wat ppl keep saying that somehow u know when u try it on lol. Well im looking foward 2 it :) thx :)

Got a question. How long that 551 stamp on the passport is good for? Anybody? Thanks

well in the USCIS website it says:

If You Recently Became a Permanent Resident

After you become a permanent resident we mail you a welcome notice. Then we mail your new permanent resident card (green card). If you move before you get your card, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283 when you move.

You should also call customer service if any of the following occur:

* You received your welcome notice or card, but you believe there is an error

* It has been more than 30 days since you became a permanent resident, and you have not received your welcome notice.

* It has been more than 30 days since you received your welcome notice but you have not received your new card.

So im thinking in max 2 months u should be getting ur GC but it doesnt take that long.

Permanent residents can work in the U.S. When you were granted permanent residence, we may have placed a special stamp in your passport or given you a temporary status document. Until you receive your new Permanent Resident Card, use this stamp or document if:

* You apply for an unrestricted social security card

* You apply for a driver's license

* You need to travel abroad for less than one year

So im thinking it doesnt really expire...

BTW

Did u guys know that u cannot leave the US for more than a year because then u could lose ur Green Card, also ppl who travel in and out and are just here couple months of the year might lose their green cards since they are not peemantly living here but in other countries. My friend got married and her husband got his conditional GC and they left to live in Ukraine now... and i dont think its a smart decision cuz when time comes to file for the restricting of conditions they might have problems since the officer will see that they are not permanantly living in the US

Wow you're so young!! Old, please! You're a spring chicken! When I was your age, marriage never even crossed my mind, I was focused getting my career off the ground.

lol thank you for making me feel young :D

yea in the past i would have never thought i would be married already, i was sure i would be near 30 and one of the last of my friends to get married.. but when u meet that person you know they r the one and theres nothing to wait for. Im so lucky to have met him, life is short and he makes me life happy and Im glad I didnt have to wait to meet him. Being with him is the best part of my day and makes my life truly happy no matter what, its having ur best friend around all the time <3 <3 We r so lucky ! :*

oh btw:

I checked the online status and the 130 is touched on 08/05 but it says it is still in initial review... And the 485 is in Card/ Document Production... weird

If you leave for less than a year, you need to do nothing to retain your greencard. If you plan to leave for more than a year, but less than 2 years, you can file for a reentry permit and retain your greencard for the two years you are away. MP, the greencard is for PERMANENT residents of the US, which means that you can have temporary residence in other countries as long as it can be proven that the US is your permanent home. You don't have to be present in the US to file for removal of conditions (although I DO think you have to do your fingerprints in the US).

The exact requirements for people that travel a lot or leave for months at a time is not published, and I too am wondering what the "real deal" is. I saw a post from one guy who said he was studying in Russia and would come back once a year, and he did that for like 4 years before he got told he would get denied entry next time. I also have a friend who was told at the border that she had to stay for two months in the US or else lose her greencard (she spent a lot of time travelling internationally). So, I am hoping that they warn people normally, as is the case with these two examples.

The US gov. realizes that people might want to move abroad for a while, they recognize up to two years with almost nothing (just a basic form). There is also a returning resident visa for people who can prove that their absence was not planned. Beyond that, you will always have spousal visa rights to the U.S. as long as you are still married.

AOS for my husband

I had a melt down this morning, I started tearing up because an employer sent me an email about not moving forward with my resume. I know something will happen, but I want that something NOW . I feel really guilty about my husband having to support us on his salary and him not being able to save as much funds as he used to. He does not complain about it, but I still feel like a smuck! Now that I have my SSN & greencard is on the way, I'm chomping at the bit to get back out in the workforce and contribute to our bills. I pretty much stay home (I do volunteer though) as to not put any unnecessary added expense to our bills. Something will happen soon for us all, just keep the possitive energy up.

Congrtaz Paulmharrie and Nartaki, my interview twins! :)

Yay!

Thank you my twin =D I wasn't able to browse the previous post since I rarely go online. I wasn't even able to post my detailed interview.  Anyways mine was more of a confirmation of my personal details than an interview. She was even took my I-94 and filing my interview letter while talking to us, and she was saying we are one of the few couples who was able to submit the forms completely and filled up the forms correctly. (Thanks to Visa Journey!) She was simply discussing to us what is a conditional card that I might be getting.

She asked me if there is something I want to include for our file as a proof of our relationship. I simply gave her the original statement of account. She get my original insurance policy to be photocopied and gave me a form to sign (application for conditional greencard) and a booklet for New Immigrants. She did not mention that I'm approved but I already guess that I am..
