Jannah, how much maternity leave do you get in the US. I've been hearing things like 6wks or 3mths, that's not true right? If it is, I'm going back to Canada where we get a year of paid and the government give you 680.00 a month after you have your child until the child turns 18.

6 weeks for vaginal birth, 8 weeks for c-section. That's it.. IT SUCKS ####! And there is no money per month after baby is born. Makes it so hard to bond. I cried for 3 weeks when I had to leave Lilyana at 9 weeks old. I could not even breastfeed. This time, I plan on take time unpaid.. I wanna spend time with my baby I don't care. I can after the baby is born and i am due back to work take Family Leave Act.. which is 12weeks at 55% pay. My work does offer this OUTSIDE of the normal 6/8 weeks.

We have the worst time off for babies, no wonder America has lost it's sense of family values. Bolivia gets 2 years!

I totaly know what you mean! If my husband did not have a very good and well paid job here, we would have leaved in France. I hate US social laws (or let's say the fact that there is no protection for those that work their #### off in this country, the middle class) I wonder how ppl still pay their taxes, sinces there is not benefit back from it!

Europe is so much better regarding that, or let's say the whole world is better than US in social laws....

And when the president tries to changes some things, then the same middle class is the one that can loose everything over an accident or illness, yet is also the one that says NO to the change.... Go figure!!!

wow, that's amazing! The US is so behind when it comes to maternity leave and vacation... At my old job in Canada, I left 8wks vacation and a week off at Xmas :crying: . I remind my husband about that every once and a while 9lol). Some days when the stupid immigration process really gets to me, I ask myself the same question... Why am I here again? If only my husband spoke a little french =].

Yes, almost all men takes paternity leave, actually 6 months is only for the dads. It is way easier to get Swedish residency than it is over here, even though they are changing regulations over there as well. Canada is another alternative, if I can't make the hubby move all the way to Sweden

In Canada my dear, education is pretty cheap compared to here... In Quebec (where I'm from) you pay roughly 2500 a semester for college. I already told hubby our children are going to college in Canada.

I am going to apply for a unrestricted social security card on Monday. I didn't have the pain afterwards because they put me on 2 different pain medication. Its not as bad as people make it out to be. I will say the part where he shot me with 6 shots in my gum was not fun. 2 of them hurt. I am glad I did it all at once. I don't have to deal with this ####### again.

The biggest obstacle to change, in this case, is the insurance groups and their power. They don't want their industry to disappear. Propaganda that the insurance companies make helps too ;) It's frustrating.

Yes, they can have dual citizenship. Even if we would stay here I really want them to have their Swedish citizenship anyway, so when they get older they can go to school or work in the EU as well.

Funny right.... My brother lives in Edmonton and a few years ago they had a huge surplus so the goverment decided to send every person a $600.00 cheque. So my brother received a cheque for himself, his wife, his MIL and my four nieces... Mind you, my youngest niece at the time was 6mths. Crazy!!! The dad'd get 5 wks paid leave that they can take whenever. My other brother is on vacation for the entire month of July.
