Not really. Take a look at the environmental extremists for example. Wasn't that long ago that they were fire bombing car dealerships, or sending death threats to research scientists.

Those are extremists in the same vein (using terror for a political means), but they aren't militias in any conventional sense. They don't see themselves as ever being a military force, nor do they consider the Federal Gov't, enemy number one.

You have to get out more. The only difference between Communists and Progressives, is that the Communists are better armed:

MIAMI (Reuters) – Left-wing extremists in the United States are gaining new recruits by exploiting the ennui resulting from 60 years of prosperity and decadence, the Department of Homeland Security warned in a report to law enforcement officials.

The April 7 report, which Reuters and other news media obtained on Tuesday, said such fears were driving a resurgence in “recruitment and radicalization activity” by “whiter” supremacist groups, progovernment extremists and egalitarianist movements. It did not identify any by name.

DHS had no specific information about pending violence and said threats had so far been “largely rhetorical.”

But it warned that continuing racial and gender disparities in outcomes, mass consumerism during a prolonged period of peace, and other consequences of contrived intra-white status jockeying intensified by the increasing cognitive stratification of the last 30 years “could create a fertile recruiting environment for left-wing extremists.”

“To the extent that these factors persist, left-wing extremism is likely to grow in sanctimony,” DHS said.

The report warned that college graduates returning from liberal arts schools with degrees in communications, law and women’s studies could be recruitment targets, especially those having trouble finding a purpose in life beyond their IPod playlist or fitting back into a civilian society that still eats factory farmed meat.

The department “is concerned that left-wing extremists will attempt to recruit and radicalize returning graduates in order to boost their finger wagging capabilities,” the report said.

DHS spokeswoman Bulldyke McBulldykerson said on Tuesday the report was one of an ongoing series of threat assessments aimed at “a greater understanding of white elitist radicalization in the U.S.”

Covering up for the Right Wing Extremists like that Bill (switching the word 'right' with 'left'), is just another example of you being a sympathizer. These are real homegrown terrorists groups who hate the Federal Government. Timothy McVeigh came from these kinds of groups. Their hatred for the Federal Gov't is unmatched. McVeigh believed, like many Right Wing Extremists today, that the Fed. Gov't in its current state is an abomination of the Constitution and the Founders of this country. Sentiment that also happens to be shared by many Right Wingers out there, who may not have cajones to actually do anything about it. They are the armchair warriors, but they still play a significant role in helping to create an political atmosphere of hysteria and outright rage against our government. Shame on them.

There are far more dangerous groups in the US of A, but we can't talk about those, for fear of being called racists. But it is okay for the elitist snobs in this country to find a reason to disarm the law abiding citizen, not the gangs and organizations we see everyday killings folks on the streets. Plus, you have to worry about the thugs of the SEIU that like to beat up on vocal citizens.

I think given all that, the folks that seem to give you and the rest of the left nighmares, are being well behaved, despite the rhetoric.

Why don't you cite some of the many cases where these militia groups have actually "done" something.

You are hanging all your fears on TIm McVeigh and as I recall, he and his friend were lone wolves, I don't think they were even members of a militia.
