Right-wing radicalism isn’t conservative

Before he was sentenced to prison on federal weapons charges, Charlie Puckett sat in my office at The Jessamine Journal and told me that the Clinton Administration would be the last democratically elected government in the United States. That's because President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore, he explained, had an agenda to impose martial law on the country and disarm its citizens so they couldn't fight back.

Charlie chastened then Congressman Scotty Baesler for supporting what he called "concentration camps" that were being set up around the country, and he cited the legislation. He also said that Clinton intended to surrender America's sovereignty to a "one-world government" headed by the United Nations. As proof, he showed me an article about Belgian troops operating on American soil. For some reason, "Patriot militia" folks like Charlie always seem to fear tiny Belgium. I did a little checking, and learned that what he and other militia men thought were concentration camps were actually Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) sites, and that those they believed were belligerent foreign troops were actually NATO forces conducting training exercises with the American military, which has always led NATO.

Charlie, whom I came to like a little despite his odd notions, was at that time the head of the Kentucky State Militia, an armed citizens group that saw itself as a legitimate part of the American defense establishment. They based their belief on the Second Amendment to the Constitution, which states: "A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." Some say these groups are not real militias, because they are not regulated by the state government, but are instead private armies, which are prohibited by law. That was a major issue in the Whiskey Rebellion of 1794, when George Washington mustered a legitimate militia to defeat a private army of insurrectionists. In my experience, the modern militias are more like the insurrectionists than Washington's citizens' army because they see the federal government as the enemy.

My interview with Charlie Puckett was part of a series I wrote on the Kentucky State Militia, which held its meetings just across the river from Camp Nelson in Garrard County. I also attended one of their meetings, where the anti-government rhetoric was boiling. The speaker that night, a professor who ranted about an imagined "New World Order" conspiracy, was quite obviously mad. A picture I took of him caught the maniacal look in his eyes — like a weird TV preacher drunk on his own power.

When I interviewed Mark Potok of the Southern Poverty Law Center's Hatewatch project, he told me that there is usually a grain of truth in the stories these groups tell to make them seem "proven" to gullible people. Case in point: the "concentration camps" bill, which set up FEMA trailer parks for disaster victims.

This week, the SPLC issued a report on the resurgence of the militia movement after nearly a decade of decline. The article in today's Winchester Sun is from Mark's blog post on the study. This disturbing development is part of a larger resurgence of right-wing radicalism that is divorced from reality. We've seen it in the town hall protests where fanatics have shouted down advocates of moderate health care reform, calling them "socialists." We've seen it among the "birthers" who claim that President Obama isn't an American, that he's a jihadist, or the Anti-Christ. We've seen it among those who deny that global warming exists or is a threat to our world, regardless of the evidence. And we've seen preachers, politicians and radio talk show hosts fan the flames of this lunacy for their own selfish reasons.

Calling this craziness conservatism is an insult to all true conservatives.

Of course they ain't conservatives. They're nutjobs needing straightjackets.

It's quite revealing to see nearly the same kind of hysteria was being talked about during the Clinton Administration...and Republican leaders were all but silent about it.

This comment left under the original piece is just too crazy not to post here:

Tom Semson: February 12, 2010 at 11:42 pm I just came across your article on Kentucky militia leader Charlie Puckett (about whom

I had known nothing, having been far from KY for over two decades.) For sure Jefferson knew periodic uprisings to keep federal (and sometimes state) regimes from

getting out of control would be needed. Hence LOCAL (not federal controlled) militias and ARMED INDIVIDUALS were crucial… or governments would become toxic.

Having been outside USA and bombardment by its “educators” and media, even living in southern Africa (until apartheid was crushed by Kissinger’s threat of invasion), I can see that even the core US secular-government “republic” plan was flawed and would

lead to the mess now existing in USA: devoid of its core industries, rapidly being overun by alien minds and folks, indebted to China, as predicted in Deut 28 – IF we fail to obey God’s (unchanging) laws!

Go back BEFORE 1776 (when a small group eager for their own power under humanism as

pushed by freemasonry then infected by the mentality of Adam Weishaupt, which had been well known in early America via “Proofs of Conspiracy” by Robeson in 1790s.)

Britian had warred and won control from anti-white, anti-Bible, Romanists (French Catholics) and Indians, by 1764. The King wanted tax to cover the cost of this liberation and ongoing defense (Indians and French Catholics still existed). To pay

somethng to Britain would not have beeb unreasonable for the thriving colonies. But the (perhaps 3%) plotters wanted to run a new land ANY WAY THEY WOULD DECIDE – VERSUS a King… who was sworn to uphold Bible Law (the coronation oath for centuries and repeated by Queen Elizabeth II at her coronation).

The plotters actually plotted AGAINST GOD’S BIBLE LAW & PROPHECIES. INSTEAD THEY PUSHED HUMANISM: the notion that men should define the “law” and judge it that way.

(This actually directly contradicts the fact the Lord is the Laawmaker, the Judge,

and the King; he will save us [not all humans, but ones he defines, John 17:9].

That is the core message on law in Isaiah 33:22. It’s reflected in all Scriptures.

So, by fomenting a revolution and insituting “democracy” (the “republic” form) they made a fatal departure from God’s Plan. For a long time it didn’t matter that much because the voters (whites, males) were mostly Bible-reading Christians… but some

humanists and anti-Jesus Jews were there and fomented changes that rotted America in 200+ years.

The king was far from perfect. So what they should have done was to call attention to his deviations and demand he correct his ways… or be replaced in 40 days. If I remember the actual Magna Carta (which did NOT create “democracy” as some say!) that was what was supposed to happen when a king deviated. But they wanted humanism! They got humanism. Now we’re run by humanism gone full-blown to revolt against God’s Laws.

The solution is rather logical. Repudiate the initial error of US revolution for humanist democracy, and especially the huge deviation of imposing one WRONG Federal viewpoint on all states in Abe Lincoln’s war. Restore Bible Law in YOUR COMMUNITY.

OK, if you’re in New York City you won’t be able to do that. You’re “community” is a hodge-podge of all the world, run by the banksters and their phoney paper money.

(Bible “money” is “keceph” is silver. Get some for trade.) In fact if you’re in most significant cities, you’ll be shouted down by the brainwashed masses. So leave!

GET OUT OF “BABYON” (or suffer its painful collapse and burning) warns Rev 17-19:3.

Where to? Unpopulated places where likeminded folks want to gather with you.

Probably 95% of Kentucky COULD be such a place. Making it one is your business,

unless you really want to go down with “Babylon.” That ship creaks and groans under

its own lies and self-destructive policies… like trading with Chinamen as “equals.”

Why would you do that? Why compete with alien-types as “equals.” Most Kentuckians are

the actual ELECT called by God. (John 17:9) Who? Ones he had foreknown and predestined

and had been made conformed to the image of his Son (ie you look like him, his type.) (Rom 8:28-29) LEARN IDENTITIES! (There exist at least three actual descriptions of Jesus. One image of him engraved on an emerald was copied; stone got “lost.” Know that he called “lost” Israelites. Mat 15:24 & 10:6. They had been put among Aryan MEDES, 2 Kings 18:11. Capital of Media was Ecbatana, now under Hamadan, Iran. You can even get a coin showing the King of later Media (Parthia)in 40 AD when they conquered

Judea! Yes, the “lost” Israelites walked Jerusalem not long before Jesus was born! But in 37 BC the Edomitic Herod gang collaborated with Rome to put them in control.

So when the “Median” Israelite Messiah was born, Herod sought to kill that baby.)

Read the Bible and especially look for what you are to do (keep God’s Laws especially his Sabbaths!) and what your rights and empowerments are. “Churches” ignore this!

(Most are “licensed” by the federal gang as a “charity” to maintain the status quo!)

I’ve studied extensively and know the time of the Second Advent. It comes SOON! Know what events will happen and what you must do… notably, get the hell out of Babylon!

Like the ridiculous tie-in to the town hall protests and talk radio.

The writer apparently missed websites like PrisonPlanet.com that peddled paranoia about Bush for years. The FEMA camp stuff/UN invasion had been around for years. I got banned from their forum after my first 2 posts. Then there was 9/11 inside job, rigged elections, Hurricance Katrina plot against blacka movements. . . that the media ignored for years.

There are conspiratorial nutjobs from all sides of political spectrum, but in terms of organized militias espousing such conspiracies and directly calling the federal government their enemy - only from the Right.

Your wrong. I remember before this Socialist admin when it was talk about pretty much the same thing from the Leftists. Stick around though and it will just be the same old again after the mid terms.

Steve is just scared, because liberals, for the most part, are not as well armed as their political opponents. But there are notable exceptions. For instance former Mayor Diane Feinstein was armed to the teeth, even though the private ownership of handguns was illegal in the city/county of San Francisco at the time.

Yeah Steve is scared and for good reason.

He knows that if just one percent of the far Right crowd decided too, they could do some serious damage.

To those who scoff and think rag-tag militia groups would be non effectual ...... consider the money, equipment, years and effort (not to mention liveslost) spent in Afghanistan,

Fighting rag-tag bands with not much more than ak-47's and simple improvised bombs.

But really, I think Steves Conservaphobia is a little too highstrung, tone down the Guv'ment intrusion and nobody gets hurt.

Who came up with General Betrayus? Whose buddy bombed the Pentagon?

Then again which end of the political spectrum burns the most American flags, heckles the notions of patriotism/nationalism and regards the nation as yahoos and rubes who must be put in their place?

Left wing, organized militias regarding the Federal Gov't as the enemy? You'd have to go back more than 30 years to find anything remotely close.
