NVC April 2010 Edition!

Called NVC last night just before they closed and the operator said they still had not received our package.

Then, this morning, AVR was updated to say that they did - yay!

Guess a May interview date is about out the window though - I can't imagine they'll have our stuff done by Friday - but...fingers crossed!

I'm curious as to what people have done in this situation. We received our AOS bill Mar 31st and paid it as soon as we got the email. It shows presently as 'in process' on the online payment system. When calling NVC the AVR indicates that NVC has received the AOS bill but it doesn't say paid.

That said, I know that it has to show paid/be paid before sending the prescribed cover sheet on the Dept of State site. Has anyone done anything differently. Like I said the AVR said it received the AOS bill but the online system shows in process and it won't allow me to obtain the cover sheet.

Keep waiting. It can take a few days to show PAID. Do you have all of your other forms ready to be mailed? What about for the DS-230? These are things you can do to keep your mind off of it. Or just enjoy the weekend.

sachi--If you haven't filed for 2009 taxes yet, THIS would be the time to do so. Be almost guaranteed that they will be asked for at the interview.

I thought I'd add to this sachi, if you don't mind. I'm sure there are some in the same position as me - I don't want to file yet because I'll owe without being able to file jointly with my wife and if I use the W-7 form for an ITIN it has to be snail mailed + they require as many documents as NVC does!! I was worried about not having my return for Merlaine to take with her to her interview so I called my tax guy. If you are due a refund, you DO NOT have to file before the April 15th deadline. You can file at any time and will even be paid interest on the money you're owed. At his suggestion, I drafted a letter explaining why I was going to wait to file and attached copies of my W-2's. I can't believe that 3 years of transcripts and that letter w/W-2's wouldn't suffice I guess I'll find out in May (oh god I hope)

Or just enjoy the weekend.

I thought I'd add to this sachi, if you don't mind. I'm sure there are some in the same position as me - I don't want to file yet because I'll owe without being able to file jointly with my wife and if I use the W-7 form for an ITIN it has to be snail mailed + they require as many documents as NVC does!! Per the US Embassy's instruction in Manila's:

"Additionally, petitioners (or joint sponsors, if needed) filing an I-864 AOS are required to submit ONLY ONE YEAR'S TAX RETURN, THE MOST RECENT AVAILABLE AS OF THE DATE THE SUBMITTED I-864 AOS WAS SIGNED (this is a change from the previous requirement of submitting tax returns from the three most recent tax years)"

You just need the most recent ITR. I was going to send the past 3 yars to my wife, but after reading that, ill just send my ITR for 2009 (packet that was prepared by our local H&R) along with transcripts for 2008,2007 and 2006.

Its 4-3-2010 1245 am. Me, in my bed, broken fan "whirlooping". I was asleep. DEAD asleep actually. The dog was doing his strange running, whimpering in his sleep. Blackberry, under my pillow, like always in case hubby calls me.

Me: roll over, check it. Grumble that its a dum Facebook notification. I curse the bloody thing cuz I SWEAR I thought I changed the settings. I toss it back under the pillow. Then, failing to return to sleep - I decide to check it. ITS JULISSA notifying Tat that YULE got SIF!!!!

Dog: Wakes up, jumps off bed startled- knocks over "whirlooping" fan.
