Hi all!

Everyone is soooo helpful on this site. Thank you all so much!!!

I am a grad student with a student loan and do not work. I graduate in May 2011. I own my own condo and receive finacial help from my family. My mother has offered to co-sponsor my fiance to move here to the US from the UK. But after looking at the forms, it looks like the only type of co-sponsor form that is available is a "household member" type of form. My mother and I do not share the same residence nor does she claim me as a dependent.

What is the best way for us to get around this?

Thank you in advance.

You are reading household member way too literally. The co-sponsor does not need to actually reside in the same physical home as you do. Your mother will work well as long as she does all the things required on I-134. Many members use a parent, relative or friend not living under the same roof.

The co-sponsor does not have to be a house hold member. I am in the same boat as you and I used my aunt who lives in another state. When we had our interview they asked for three years CERTIFIED copies from my co-sponsor (this take 60 days to get from the IRS in the U.S. and cost money). If your going to use a co-sponsor getting CERTIFIED copies is some thing you should think about now. We waited 216 days to get an interview and then at the interview they tell us we need forms which take 60-days to get ..... It's bullshit!!! Not only that but the IRS screwed-up and now I have been waiting additional 33 days to get these forms.... (93 days in total to get certified forms from the IRS). My suggestion is learn from the "#######" that I have gone through and get CERTIFIED copies now, do it way before the interview. We have waited 309 days for the government to "process items" which should take at the most TWO weeks and we still have nothing.

Good luck

I have never ever heard of this. Did they tell you why they had to be certified? None of the information says certified, and does in fact tell you how to go about getting the IRS tax transcripts and I believe even mentions that they're free...

Was there a difficulty in your case? Honestly this surprises me...

Here: http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-864.pdf page 8 states "You are not required to have the IRS certify the transcript or photocopy unless specifically instructed to do so by a Government official; a plain transcript or photocopy is acceptable." It doesn't mention under what grounds the government official would want it certified, but perhaps your co-sponsors info didn't look legit??

So OP, as the instructions state, you are NOT required to get certified IRS transcripts unless requested by a government official.
