Try Aldi or Lidl, instead. It's them that Walmart can't beat when it comes to prices. ;)

We have Aldi stores in my area which the prices are pretty good overall. Don't know how the stores are outside the U.S., but the ones here mostly sell offbrand items and when they do have a branded item it's normally there for a limited time. Plus the stores aren't anywhere near the size of a Wal-Mart, so you don't have any choice, i.e. you take the brand of peanut butter they sell or you don't get peanut butter. The thing I think is a smart idea that they do is the carts are chained together and you need a quarter to get a cart and you get your quarter back when you chain yours back up.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

As long as they still have stores in Maryland I couldn't careless that they sold their stores in Germany. Their loss not mine. Will be heading there tomorrow to reap the bargins. LOL

The American Economy is suffering due to the anti-competitive conduct of Wal-Mart

How is this? If Wal-Mart wasn't around it would just be someone else selling the stuff and probably for a higher price. Can't see where Wal-Mart is anti-competitive. I think if you look up competitive in the dictionary it will say "See Wal-Mart."

In terms of supplier relations, by dictating the price at which suppliers sell their goods, Wal-mart squeezes margins so tight that the suppliers are unable to make a profit margin (and thus a decent return on investment). Investment in capital goods diminishes, as is the labour to run the machinery. The manufacturer is thus forced to exit the industry. Loss of a major player, loss of American jobs.

Walmart may call it 'creative destruction'; others call it anti-competitive.

Great analogy! You just forgot to include the fans into the equation because they have been brainwashed to believe that their team is the best in any respect!

If making it home with more money left in my wallet after shopping is brainwashed I guess I am.

Define myopic.

I can't help but wonder how Walmart couldn't compete in Germany if they're really that cheap. After all, Germans are very parsimonious and buy mostly at discounters. Makes me think that Walmart is not really that cheap or that their quality was sub par...

 the only bonus shopping at a Walmart store in Germany is that the store opens at 7am and accepts credit cards. We had a Walmart down the road from my office and we usually went there when we needed something for a very early breakfast meeting and forgot to shop the day before. The store was dirty and badly stocked with high prices. Every time. So everybody shopped at the Aldi next door...

Anyway, speaking of price dumping... has anybody seen this new line of organic products offered by Walmart? How does "organic" and "price dumping" go together???

Hm Aldi's concept is to have their own brand stuff, and not too much stuff in stock and not too many different brands because that is expensive. They keep their prices low, mostly by the deposit for the shopping cart (nobody has to return them, one employee less) and by selling plastic bags (no free bags, and you pack yourself). The system is simple but works well. Plus: the non-brand stuff is actually brand-stuff! In Germany you can even buy a book which lists the no name brand and its real brand. E.g. the facial cream sold in German Aldi stores is mostly Nivea. The big brands always produce too much stuff, so they sell stuff to the discounter stores who sell it in their own names. So you'll get a low price and high quality, only that you have a not so nice packaging. I think that's okay with me! :)

Walmart in Germany btw was totally different than here. It was expensive, dirty and so far out off city limits. The competition with the strongly discounter dominated German stores was really hard. Still in America I think Walmart is expensive, but the profit for groceries in German supermarkets is 2%, the average in the USA is 5% - so of course Walmart either had to give up or to get used to lower profits. That's why I think food is soooo expensive here - people are just used to pay more for the same stuff here. On the other hand side clothing is extremely cheap in the US and way more expensive in Germany.

I am so happy that there is Aldi in NC - finally less than 3 bucks for Cornflakes!!!!
