what did i miss?

It is my thought that the flash sideways are more than just how their life would be if the plane did not cash. but how their life would be if they where never "chosen"

if the island sunk 30 years ago then jacob would never have been there to all along to alter their lives over the years in preparation for the selection process.

so imho they are showing us their "unchosen life" as it would have proceeded without any island influence.
