You can also (with caution (1)) use Priceline.

(1) You can oft get a cheaper price, but it has the following drawbacks:

  • You will get charged as soon as your bid is accepted and no refunds
  • You're stuck with that even if the routing is lousy

I actually used it twice this year to get good hotel deals:

  • in Novi/Farmington area in April for my wedding
  • July 4 weekend for a road trip to Atlanta

For me, it seems Yahoo! Travel always spits back the cheapest ticket prices.

Here's a site I recently discovered:

http://www.consolidatorflightengine.com/ by Shoestring Traveler.

One last idea: Sign up with an airline for their weekly listing of "last minute" specials. I get American Airlines' listing and I've seen some excellent deals.

Good luck!

I concur with the Priceline idea. It's always been waaayyy cheaper for me. I can put up with weird routes/times if it saves me big bucks. I booked a week ahead a flight from Cincinnati to Heathrow and only paid $300. It was a daytime flight even!

I disagree, and second the vote that Orbitz is one of the cheaper websites . I tried booking a flight this summer and the prices on Hotline and many others were definately higher that on Orbitz. The one thing you have to be careful about though, is the connection times. They`ll often give you transatlantic flights with like 45 minutes in between (good way to miss your connection). But overall........I find they give you many other airlines and routes that other websites do not, at a cheaper price. (althought Expedia has been pretty cheap of late too).

I guess it all mainly just depends on where and when you are going..........

If you are booking early enough I would just go straight to like www.united.com. Alot of times they were less expensive AND I got mileage added to my Mileage Plus card (non Credit Card)

Posted
www.kayak.com

I fly business class and I am flying from ORD to FLL for Christmas. www.kayak.com = $642, www.united.com = $450....and like I said, I still get my miles on the card. Yah economy is the bomb with Kayak, $342 versus $405 for economy.

That's exactly how I actually booked both hotels I mentioned earlier (plus one in Philly for a conference in late august) and my rental car to go to Novi for my wedding.

I just booked a flight home to Toronto yesterday. I checked all the regulars, and they all wanted $12 more for the flight than what I paid for it directly from Air Canada.
