Hi,

Thankfully, we received our interview date letter. It is stating that we have to pay $400.00 fees for the immigrant visa and $131 for the K1 visa? The letter is not clear if we should pay both or only the $131. Has anyone gone through this process? Can you let me know.

Thanks,Farid

K1 is considered a non-immigrant visa, therefore, $131. if you were applying for cr1/ir1, these are immigrant visas, and the cost for the application is $400.

I was under the impression the K-1 Visa is $455 USD, no?

$455 is for the I-129F petition, which is a seperate fee in addition to the visa fee

YMMV

Alright then. So at what point is it required that you pay the visa fee? I know you have to submit the I-129F petition fee along with the forms once you first apply..

Then the visa fee to the consulate prior to intervew

YMMV

Oh okay, thanks. I had no idea until now! Also, my partner and I are getting ready to start the paperwork for the K-1 visa in February. Is there a list on the forum of everything you need? ie: letter of intent, I-129F form, pictures, e-mails, etc. I know those are some of the required documents when you file the petition, but I am not sure on everything that needs to be sent in while we file the I-129F petition form, as well as all the documents. I've visited the USCIS website, and browsed through the topics on here, but it can be very confusing when you get different responses!

Thanks!

Thank you guys. I'll have her have some "extra" cash just in case.

Do you think it would help if I fly to be with her at the interview? or would that be too much and redundant?

Being from afghanistan, and from what i hear, (correct me if i'm wrong) you can expect her to get a blue, at best. If you have the money to spare, i would reccomend being there for her.

Yes, if you can be there, it's a very good idea.

BTW, your fiancee might want to consider bringing US $ cash for interview. From my fiancee's experience (she told me):

1) the exchange rate charged by the US embassy (in Poland) was FAR higher than exchange rates she could get locally, AND,

2) if the exchange rates change from the quoted amount in local currency quoted by the embassy, the embassy WILL change the required amount if paid using local currency.

#2 happened to my fiancee (and everyone else waiting in line for B2 visa that day) in Cracow Poland last year ... most had brought only the amount quoted (in local currency... e.g. Zlotys) by the embassy, but they were told they needed to pay a larger amount due to currency market fluctuations... fortunately my fiancee had some extra cash on hand, but apparently many others did not! They were turned away.

You'll want to check to insure that the embassy accepts US $ ... we didn't even consider this until later ... but, I would expect they will have no problem with that :D

Good luck!!!
