I went for my biometrics appointment yesterday and another gentleman came in while she was taking my fingerprints. She went over to the door to help him..he was there for biometrics to renew his greencard. She looked at his letter, and then looked at his Greencard and questioned his name. Apparently they had his greencard wrong, first name was on it as last name. She told him she couldn't do his biometrics as there was an error on his card. Told him he would have to bring in a copy of his birth certificate before they could do it. He said, "how am I suppose to get that all the way from Isreal?" She told him they couldn't help him without it and to make sure it was translated. She was very nice about it, just doing her job. I felt really bad for him though. But I got to thinking on the way home...regardless of what visa he came in on...wouldn't they already have a copy of his birth certificate? Well I guess maybe he may not have come on a visa. It made me come home and double check all my paperwork that we sent in for AOS!

I have less and less sympathy for incidents like this.

It's not like the directions are really hard for anything in this process.

He could have just said "the green card is correct - there's no error" and then changed it later.

Thats was I was thinking. She caught him off guard and probably didn't realize it about his greencard.

There's an Israel's Embassy in the US, no? Will they help this dude get his birth certificate?

There's an Embassy in Washington DC, and consulates in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Miami, Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

They may be able to help in such a case, to retrieve a transcript of a birth certificate filed in Israel. Easier I should think would be to contact a family member in Israel and have them request such a transcript from the local authorities where it was filed.

You feel sorry for an adult who doesn't have a copy of his birth certificate in his desk drawer? I have several certified "originals" for everyone in this household. he is a fool. I bet he has been back to Isreal several times and is just irresponsible, unthinking and uncaring. This will always bite you in the @ss.

Sounds just like you, Gary. Maybe he's your long lost twin.

BTW - It's Israel. Not Isreal. Got it?
