Dumb question. We were married yesterday (yay!) and are now filling out our forms.... so On the first line of the G-325A form, , does she use her new last name as her family name or "maiden" name?

Also, I understand she should now have an "A" number. Where can that be found?

Thanks

If she is going to go by her new last name and wants it to be her name on her green card, then every document she fills out for AOS is using the new last name as her family name. There's often places for "former names" where she can put her maiden name.

A number can be found on your NOA2 for the K1 Visa. It's also written on the visa. And I think hand written on the I-94 by CBP too, but I've kinda forgotten and I'm too lazy to get out our copy and look. It looks like A-xxxxxxxxx

Thanks for the help. good info on Family name.

No luck at all on the A number. Cannot figure out why. I am looking at my I-797 Notice of Action that says Notice Type: Apporval Notice valid from ... etc.

No number looking like A-xxxxxxxx. Just and EAC number.

Thoughts?

Okay .. I found the A number only to find MORE problems with the G-325a form.

In the "file number" field at the top there is an A that preceeds the field where you type. There is only room for 8 numbers though the A number has nine digits.

Then the "Alient Registration Number" filed at the bottom that also has an "A" has space for nine numbers.

Are they looking for two different numbers or did they screw up (again). Should I write in the numbers in teh field where the 9 numbers won't fit?

Above the beneficiaries name on the NOA2 (in small print) it will have an A number.

Also on the visa under "annotation" I believe.

And as said mine was hand written on my I-94 by the person at POE, but I think not everyone gets that "special treatment"

You must have done something strange. Make sure you cursor ALL the way to the end of the A field (at the top) and then backspace lots of times, maybe you have a "space" at the front (I did when I tried to copy and paste it). Then try again. Trust me when I say it fits. I'm looking at my form now. Fresh from the USCIS website..

If you're still having issues then yes, I would type the first 8 and then NEATLY print the last digit.

BUMMER!!! No A number on the passport, only on NOA2. Weird.

Also, the space for "File Number" possitively only has room for ... count them. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, .... "DONK"! [computer sound]

Yep ... only 8 digits. the number has 9. Our number looks like this:

A012 345 678

The A is pre-printed. Only enough space for 8 of the nine numbers.

Oh well.
