A grandmother who committed suicide was under investigation for feeding her three-year-old grandson a biscuit laced with marijuana, it was revealed today.

Erin Marcove gave the toddler at least one peanut butter cookie made with cannabis butter on December 4 at her home in Denver.

The following morning, she had trouble waking the boy up and called an ambulance.

A week later, 44-year-old Ms Marcove took her own life.

The toddler has since made a full recovery.

Ms Marcove was an advocate for medicinal marijuana and had used the drug for chronic back pain most of her life.

Police seized a jar of cannabis butter at her home and a police report showed the little boy had the drug in his system when he was taken to the hospital.

Ms Marcove told police she had a medical marijuana licence and she made the cannabis butter that Friday night and gave one cookie to her grandson with a glass of milk at about 10.30pm.

When police asked where the remaining cookies were, 'Ms Marcove said all the cookies were gone,' according to a detective's statement supporting a search warrant for the grandmother's home.

Marcove lived with her husband and their three sons, including the three-year-old's father.

The grandmother said when she woke up at noon on Saturday the boy 'was still sleeping, which was odd and she couldn't get him to wake him up,' according to the search warrant affidavit.

By 3pm, the boy was still in a stupor and Ms Marcove tried to put him in the shower, but still couldn't wake him.

Marcove then called the child's mother who summoned an ambulance.

According to court records, Ms Marcove said she didn't call for the paramedics or take the boy to the hospital herself, because she didn't have his Medicaid card.

Why did she do that?? Did she forget the cookies had cannabis, was she trying to cure him of something, or did she just think it would be funny to give a 3 year old pot??
