After my fiance got his k-1 visas in Nov. he went purchase a ticket using that visa to go to a different country instead of coming here to the USA

I really don't think the posting was mean or non-sensitive. Yes we all are sorry that someone has to go through this and has the courage to post here but.....the K-1 is not a get to know you visa. These types of situations just make it all the more difficult for the rest of us.

Yes it may sound mean but here's two people planning on getting married and then he up and leaves and the family is in on the gig and to top it off the poster is concerned about future K-1 petitions? Does this sound like a well thought out unique relationship or just someone who will keep trying again but is put off by the money and time spent on getting nothing?

Obviously there must be more to the story but since the OP didn't want to divulge more we must make assumptions.

I didn't mean it to be nasty or put down the perpetrator or his family; I just added the kids

as an illustration (it may not be kids, it may be cousins he is supporting or a drug habit)

of a person not worthy of trust. Such people are often hiding more than one other secret

or "detail" regarding their life and I just put the possibility of a local wife & kids to illustrate that.

Then there is a further far-fetched possibility that he is actually using the money to do good.

yes it's possible to use that K1 other than coming to the US... for example: He might have tried unsuccessfully in the past to enter the UK... So he could have gone with that US K1 visa in hand to the British embassy in Laos, applying for a tourist visa to the UK telling them that him and his new USC wife is planning on vacationing there and they would have felt more at ease granting him a tourist visa thinking that he'll end up going to the US to live for sure, thereby the "different country" business... The Nigerian ring leaders and fraudsters are plentiful in the UK and the rest of Europe unfortunately...

Nice expository on Nigerian visa fraud - but LAOS is in Asia and it's a country.

Lagos is the most populous city of Nigeria.

I would be more concerned that this person now has access to your financial information (tax transcripts/w-2/1040) you submitted for the interview.

That's probably the biggest red flag.

He may not be sophisticated enough to take advantage of that

but you can bet that he might be willing to sell that info to folks who can.

I realize I can come across as a little rude on here sometimes, I just tend to speak my mind and type exactly too what I think right there and then... probably not such a good idea in a public forum, haha!

But sheezz.. what's up with these people sending money to complete strangers they possibly only met online and barely know? So you visit this person in their country once or twice before bringing them over to the US and you think you know them well enough to send them a whole bunch of cash for a ticket and a K1 visa with the idea of marrying in 90 days?? Good grief! commitment much ? I just will never get this... what's with the desperation? Why not find somebody here in the US, that's already legally here?? How do you know the foreign SO is not just a really good act online and is not just putting up a "front" every time you visit -clears the house of all pics of her/his boyfriend/girlfriend and moves him/her out for when you're there, with the family happily lying along cause they're thinking they're gonna piggyback a ride on their daughter/sons back to the US in a few years??

The OP is already thinking about getting another K1 visa for someone else in future? what the heck.. ever tried a dating site... matchmetoaloser.com (kidding!) or something? Seriously, what's wrong with trying to find someone HERE, get to know them WELL before getting married and avoid all this drama and suspense?

Got any emails from him, these last 2 months? Can study headers, get the IP addresses, do reverse lookup on the IP, will tell you the city and country (usually) .

That may show you that he hasn't been at the location he claimed to be all along.

As far as catching up with him, he hasn't broken any local laws so you're pretty much

out of luck on that score. It is a crime but it's a con game that is almost impossible to

prosecute. Ninja assassins might be an option.
