Sorry Platy- but even food in a high enough dose will kill a person. Water is also poisonous if consumed in too high a quantity. Plants get carbon poisoning from too high a CO2 load.

Its not only CO2... its too much of it. Therein lies the problem- some folks have a really hard time catching those parts of speech that make the difference between the black and white world they think in (all or nothing).

That was my point. The two incidents cited involved the mass release of CO2. Ergo, people were breathing almost exclusively CO2 (Ergo, large quantities of it). So, yes....they're going to die.

Not really. Even when in a room where CO2 canister tanks have their regulators blown, there is still sufficient O2 there to make the lethality of CO2 possible with it not being the entire constituent in the room. In an open area this is even more so the case. I know what you're trying to say though (as CO2 being the ONLY constituent gas) and its also legitimate. What you should consider for a moment is the amount of CO2 in parts per million of atmosphere that can be considered lethal or otherwise detrimental to mammalian (and even plant) life. Its a lot lower than 100% CO2, trust me. A lot.
