I have no problem in accepting the concept of global warming if it eases our dependence on foreign oil, causes us to search and develop so-called alternate forms of energy, reduces the pollution that is killing all of us, and forces us to increase the efficiency of our automobiles that are an incredibly low 10-15% wasting huge resources of energy.

But if it just results in a carbon tax, would be 100% against it. And that is exactly what we had for the last 35 years, an oil controlled congress that only knows how to control our lives with taxes and fines. If I want to do 100% maintenance on my post 1996 vehicles that I can do now due to a California supreme court ruling, would have to lay out 8,000 bucks just to gain access to the equipment and esoteric software that I would need. And only would be good for about a year due to constant EPA changes. No average person can maintain their vehicles today and not even a very experienced person. And would cost thousands more plus certification to be assured that my vehicles are meeting current emission standards.

Plus we are no better off by reducing the gram per mile standards as we have millions of more vehicles on the road during this time span. Plus today, we have vehicles that are spying on us, notifying the EPA that our check engine light is on. Or how fast you were driving before you hit that other vehicle and whether you were wearing your belt or not. Did you know that?

A so-called zero emission vehicle outputs 100% of H2O and CO2, making a stink about the CO2, but nothing said about the additional H2O that really has global warming potential, so our leaders are idiots, but still only a very small fraction of these emissions are being used to get us anywhere. And to reduce CO2 still results in the production of H2O and increasing the efficiency is the key parameter. But that is only if our government gives tax breaks or funds research.

The way I would define a miracle, is if we have a government that will tackle these age old problems with technology, and not simple tax and fine us to death the way they have been ever since the energy crisis. And we did lose 35 years of valuable research due to the a$sholes we had as leaders during this same time span. Have a bad feeling, we still have as$holes running this country.

To date, this phenomenon has been knowingly observed only twice. The first was in Cameroon at Lake Monoun in 1984, causing the asphyxiation and death of 37 people living nearby. A second, deadlier eruption happened at neighbouring Lake Nyos in 1986, this time releasing over 80 million cubic meters of CO2 and killing between 1,700 and 1,800 people, again by asphyxiation.

Sorry Platy- but even food in a high enough dose will kill a person. Water is also poisonous if consumed in too high a quantity. Plants get carbon poisoning from too high a CO2 load.

Its not only CO2... its too much of it. Therein lies the problem- some folks have a really hard time catching those parts of speech that make the difference between the black and white world they think in (all or nothing).
