On Friday, Gun Owners of America sent out an action alert to its 300,000 members warning that the Senate health care bill "would mandate that doctors provide 'gun-related health data' to 'a government database,' including information on mental-health issues detected in patients, which could jeopardize their ability to obtain a firearms license." The alert also warned its membership that the "wellness and prevention" provisions in the health care bill would allow the Obama administration to issue a "no guns" decree:

Finally, as we have mentioned several times in the past, the mandates in the legislation will most likely dump your gun-related health data into a government database that was created in section 13001 of the stimulus bill.
This includes any firearms-related information your doctor has gleaned ... or any determination of PTSD, or something similar, that can preclude you from owning firearms.

And, the special "wellness and prevention" programs (inserted by Section 1001 of the bill as part of a new Section 2717 in the Public Health Services Act) would allow the government to offer lower premiums to employers who bribe their employees to live healthier lifestyles --
and nothing within the bill would prohibit rabidly anti-gun HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius from decreeing that "no guns" is somehow healthier.

The so-called "gun-related health data" is actually anonymous statistical information to help researchers develop health programs and initiatives that serve specific population groups or further the study of various conditions and medical needs. Section 2705 of the Senate health bill permits employers to vary insurance premiums by as much as 30 percent for employee participation in certain health promotion and disease prevention programs, but stipulates that the employer wellness program must be "based on an individual satisfying a standard that is related to a health status factor." Gun ownership does not fall into this category.

How f'n stupid can a human be seriously. Is it even possible to be that dumb?

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

I think this is political allies helping each other out. Everything but the kitchen has been thrown at health care reform. If it does pass, it will a monumental moment in our history.

Guess why Lieberman opposes the public option so much that he's willing to filibuster? His wife works for the private insurance industry.

It's a proven fact, Steve. Reforming healthcare will :

* strip away your Second Amendment rights,

* allow an additional 32.5 million illegal aliens to stream across the border into the US whereupon they will immediately be given (a) your job (b ) your passport.

* spur 27.9 million pregnant teens to immediately seek out abortions at Planned Parenthood clinics

* raise your taxes to a top marginal bracket of 96%

If you don't believe me, just google it yourself. I'm sure you'll find the facts online to prove I'm right.

Spoken as someone who has not followed the gun debate for the last 40 years. This exact tactic has been tried before to ban firearms and ammunition. They have tried to use the FDA and the Consumer Product Safety Commission for the same thing. I have no doubt someone will try this. Legislation was enacted to exempt firearms from these controls...so far. Then they tried product liability to ban firearms, again that hs been shot down with legislation. The anti-gun people have looked for every possible crack or crevice to take away our guns, this will be another, of that I have absolutely no doubt.

The people that wrote that article are NOT stupid, they are experienced.

One of my big objections to turning over health care to the government is that it creates a framework to control nearly every aspect of your life on the basis of healthcare. Canadians pay exorbitant "insurance rates" on their car registration because of the cost of traffic accidents to the medical system, closing in on $400 per year in Quebec, that is in addition to your own liability and collision insurance, and don't even mention the cost of motorcycles! It will be the basis to control what you eat, smoke, drink, drive, shoot, play with. It is opening a terrible door.

The gun debate will never be solved because it's not based on logic. Discussions like these are similar to a discussion against the impact of illegal immigration. It’s similar to those who have a 'you hate brown folk' stance on everything. What that shows me is that realistically, no matter what is presented, this person isn't listening. Basically, there is no discussion.

I didn't realize the government is controlling people in Canada, Australia, and Europe. Victorians pay a good $500 for annual vehicle registration but it does mean they too are covered if they are ever injured and hospitalized for a long time, require rehabilitation or are disabled for life. Extremely logical form of insurance, as it could happen to anyone; especially here with our shitty roads, large clown azz (unsafe) trucks / SUVs and heavy footed drivers.

Terrible door? So I guess you must honestly believe that the rest of the developed world must be stupid to do all of that. At some point people have to look at others abroad and their way of doing things and ask themselves, if our system is so grande, why has nobody copied it? To the contrary, why are all first world countries and every other country with a higher standard of living than Americans doing the total opposite? Countries where the government does get involved, furthermore, people see actually see it as being their job.

I think like many with like-minded views, you confuse responsible caring governments in first world countries, with the old Soviet Union style government. Ironically, the type of freedom you cherish the most, aka literally do as you please, is what I dislike the most about the US. To me, it's the root cause of so many problems the US has; problems that simply do not exist in other first world countries.
