On a perfectly partisan, 60-39 vote, the Senate agreed tonight to debate and amend a far-reaching health care bill. That debate will get started in earnest after Congress returns from next week's Thanksgiving recess. Democrats and Republicans expect to offer hundreds of amendments (each of which will be held to a 60 vote threshold) and debate for several weeks before holding yet another procedural supermajority vote--to end debate. If that gets 60 votes, then there will be an up-or-down vote on passage of the bill.

If the bill passes it will likely undergo yet more changes in conference with House negotiators. The "conference report" that emerges from that process can't be amended, but can be filibustered in the Senate, so will likely require 60 votes for passage. Only after both chambers have passed the conference report can the bill be sent to President Obama for a signature.

I tuned in to CSPAN a couple of times today. You could definitely tell obstructionism did not win the vote today. Bravo for democracy. Lets all hope the debate does not lead to a useless bill. Keep the 60 going through to the final vote with that simple majority. :)

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

I wonder how many many more years this will take? If it took this much effort to get it to the debate stage, what will happen when it is discussed in earnest?

If they have to read it first, it could take years, thank God.

The 2,074-page Senate health care bill would take 34 hours to read cover to cover

Here is the link to the bill. Patient Protection and Affordable Health Care Act

They took alot of things out that private insurers has such as no limitation of medical devices (aka prostetics, etc..). Pre-existing conditions is taken out. That means if you have a pre-existing condition, you will still be covered.

Have they taken out the pay higher prep taxes for years before it goes into effect, and if you get sick during Barry's first term, you're still SOL provision? How about the pay, pay, pay or go to jail part?

Normal people = dumb?

Senate = Normal People

Therefore with the commutative property, senate=dumb.

Well, looking at the pdf file of the bill, it's not hard to read. If any senators are listening, my apologizes. Just giving an example.

Senate = Normal People :rofl:

These are the same bunch of folks who have excused themselves from this glorious health care system they want to subject everyone else to, so they're not that dumb.

I doubt the Senate = Smart

They haven't contributed one article towards science. I can read this document with one eye open. Heck, Kim Peak (world's renown servante) is alot more capable of comprehension than the Senate. The bill is very simple to read. If those who said it's hard to read, just learn to read. Most likely the Republicans thinks that it is discouraging to read long passages because they're simply lazy to read it? Nothing wrong with reading a long passage. Imagine having to write a technical advance engineering mathematics book without loosing your train of though that is over 600 pages long.
