Right now I'm unsure where or if I will be working when my girl's interview rolls around next year.

I'm a contractor that mostly works on software temp projects. My project here may end in March but no one knows. I expect our embassy interview will be sometime between May to August.

So right now my problem is I'm nervous if I will still have this job when we are interviewed. Since they will ask questions about my financial ability to support my wife to be.

So right now I have another job offer but it's about $10 an hour less than I make right now. The thing is though I know it will be long term work. So if I take the lower paying job I will for sure still have a job by the time we go to interview and can show employment status.

If I remain at my current job site I might be let go in March then at interview time I may or may not have a job.

I'd appreciate your suggestions..

Is it better for me to take the lower paying job and be employeed for sure when our interview time comes around or should I just stick with my temp project to see what happens.

Thanks for your helpful comments. I'm thinking of what I should do over this weekend...

This is a tough one...

Are you having someone co-sponsor? If you are, I wouldn't worry too much about the job situation. However, if you are not it may be a better idea to obtain a steady job if not just for the K-1 visa, for AOS purposes. After your fiancee arrives & you are married, you will have to submit financial information all over again at that point in time.

Hope I could help out a bit :star:

You will have two options...

1. New Job

2. Co-sponsor but manilla requires it be a family member for a K-1

On alternative will ruffle a feather or two but you could deal with this concern by executing a 100% truthful and accurate affidavit of support in early March and send it along to your fiancee.

Since your income is 1099, you may be filing tax returns as self employed. If that's the case, you state your income as the number on line 22 of your 2009 tax return and send three complete tax returns along as back-up. Self employed people contractors have downtime. It's no problem.

I can appreciate this headache and so can 10% of the current unemployed US population. The amount of people involved in various stages of the K1 - K3 process hit suddenly with employment/support issues has climbed through the roof. I personally face the same problem. I hope when the interview comes I'm not sitting there with my Unemployment Inusrance benefits (good for a year and pays more than the 125% poverty guideline) but never the less not "employed." I think this whole sponsor thing is a sham because often times the your K1 K3 can upon obtaining a work visa get a job before you - the sponsor! And I'm too old to get a co-sponsor. My parents are dead. Has anyone else tried to use Unemployment Insurance and got bye?

I think this is pretty good advice. Just realize that Gary's options may still apply in the end when you file for Adjustment of Status later in the year.

Doesn't ruffle my feathers. The good thing about being self employed is you are never unemployed. Good suggestion Pushbrk.

Consular will look at the totality of circumstances in assessing the credibility of joint sponsorships, family or not! It is a case by case basis.

You should have no problems

Go down to your county tax office and file a DBA, and start a company, Cost around $10 to do so.

When fiance goes to interview, just send a Employment letter on your own company letter head.

Manila will only require last years tax return.

Should be a piece of cake
