Yea, like you don't want to buy things for less money.

You want to pay full sticker price for your car, and heaven forbid you cheat on your taxes.

Of course we should all thank "made in china mart".. oh I mean Wal-Mart after all they are a prefect example of blood thirsty uncontrolled greed and capitalism. Wal-Mart and organizations like it are slowly but surely taking away our choices and our options everyday. I still prefer the health system back home.. there is no charge for prescriptions and no need to be held hostage by Wal-Mart.

Every store has a ton of things made in China. Target, Meijer, Borders, Barnes & Noble, Hallmark, Harbor Freight, Sears, Kmart, the list goes on.

Can you name for me a major store that does not sell a ton of made in China stuff?

Some people are prepared to pay premium for better products.

Are they better products? (The meds, I mean) I understand the rest of the stuff there. Heh.

If Wal-Mart starts offering $100 emergency appendectomies, that would be significant.

Too many Gov restrictions to pull this off, though it is quite possible.

Ever compare dental costs to medical costs?

Even so, as more and more dental customers have insurance, we are seeing this cost climb too.

Comparing dental costs and medical costs isn't terribly useful. What's the most expensive dental procedure these days? Probably an implant? (which is actually a few procedures) Compare that against something like a quadruple bypass.

I've noticed that proponents of a for-profit system like to point to how much lasik surgery has come down since its introduction because most optical benefits don't include it, supply and demand, etc. But lasik surgery is a 20-minute procedure. Try to apply the lasik surgery model to standard treatments for, say, a 60-year-old with serious heart disease.

Nobody is trying to compare Lasik to a quadruple bypass pound for pound. Of course the bypass is more expensive. But Lasik costs $500 an eye. A quadruple bypass costs over $200,000, depending on the length of the ICU stay. I'm not a doctor or an expert so maybe that is really reasonable. However, the real point is that in the last ten years, lasik has dropped from $5,000 to $500 while healthcare costs for everything that insurance covers continue to spiral upward. The free market is pulling lasik down to something that is reasonable that the average person can pay for.

Its not generics that are the problem. You can get generics pretty cheaply at whatever pharmacy that you go to. Its everything else that is under 20 year patent protection that's driving up the cost of drugs. How is walmart going to fix that?

-true, generics are cheaper but now they are bought at even cheaper rates.. thanks to Wal-mart.

- I think you missed the ball here, I showed how the Free market has made many common prescriptions cheaply available for hundreds of millions of Citizens... and even Illegals :)

You turn around and act like it's up to wal-mart to go even further with out asking...

WHAT HAS OBAMA DONE?

... you mean "no charge to you?"

I doubt people back home are producing medications simply to give them away to the good citizens.

So tell me who it is that is paying for those meds you get for nothing?

The HNS buys the medicine in quantity allowing for a huge discount.

Or the medication is manufactured over there for a cheaper cost. Smith-Glaxo manufactures Advair in Europe under the name Seretide.

In fact, imagine the Obama worship that would have taken place had; Obamer set up centers in every community whereby people could go and buy these hundreds of medicines for $4 bucks ... and on top of that, this program would not cost the tax payers one cent. (what Wal-mart has done)

Instead of seeing a good-thing, all our "high Brow" VJers look down their noses at Wal-mart, the people who shop there and the $4 prescription plans which saves untold millions money at a time when a lot of people can use a price break.

But if Obamer had managed this program, it would be praised as "Change".

There aren't enough enticements in the world to get me to shop at Walmart. And yes, I will pay a higher price for something if it means one or more of the following:

1. The people producing it are receiving a fair and living wage

2. It isn't tested on animals

3. It isn't produced by child labor

4. It isn't produced using cruelty (this pertains to food, especially, though I am no longer a vegetarian I do watch what I eat)

5. It is good quality

There's no point paying ####### for #######. And because I do have a choice in how I spend my money, my money will go to items, food, or companies who engage in Fair Trade, good labor practices, and are cruelty-free. WalMart doesn't quite fit that bill.

I will add: it's not always possible to avoid buying something which goes against my standards, but I do try as best I can. What is the point of having personal ethics if I don't apply them?

But here is my question: Is it still $4 for the person w/o insurance? Or is it $4 because you have insurance?

i have yet to pay only $4 for meds at Wall-Mart or anywhere else... but maybe that's because though generic, they are not on the special $4 list?
