Forget all the promises Obamer has made about "bringing down the Cost of Healthcare".

The fact is right now you can go to Wal-mart and get many prescriptions filled at an even lower rate than your co-pay might be.

Most people know Walmart will fill many proscriptions for $4 and a 90day supply for $10.

I heard of this but never really checked into it until this week.

I typically pay $10 co-payment at my Drug store, when I picked up the list of covered-drugs at wal-mart, I saw mine was on it Which would mean a 6 dollar savings. (even more for bigger refills)

When I mentioned this to my drug store,... that I want to transfer to wal-mart they said "we will match their price".

(Rite aide).

So thanks to wal-mart and the power of the Market, I will be getting my prescription even cheaper than my Insurance Co-pay.

Hey folks if you like your pharm, see if they have a matching policy as well.

Just one more example of how free markets give better service and lower prices most of the time.

Of course we should all thank "made in china mart".. oh I mean Wal-Mart after all they are a prefect example of blood thirsty uncontrolled greed and capitalism. Wal-Mart and organizations like it are slowly but surely taking away our choices and our options everyday. I still prefer the health system back home.. there is no charge for prescriptions and no need to be held hostage by Wal-Mart.

If Wal-Mart starts offering $100 emergency appendectomies, that would be significant.

I doubt people back home are producing medications simply to give them away to the good citizens.

So tell me who it is that is paying for those meds you get for nothing?

Too many Gov restrictions to pull this off, though it is quite possible.

Ever compare dental costs to medical costs?

Even so, as more and more dental customers have insurance, we are seeing this cost climb too.

Taxes, plain and simple the people pay for the medications needed by the people. I know that sounds to some like the worst thing ever but I'd rather vote for and elect those who control the medicine with my ballot than allow some faceless unelected for profit company control it.

Comparing dental costs and medical costs isn't terribly useful. What's the most expensive dental procedure these days? Probably an implant? (which is actually a few procedures) Compare that against something like a quadruple bypass.

I've noticed that proponents of a for-profit system like to point to how much lasik surgery has come down since its introduction because most optical benefits don't include it, supply and demand, etc. But lasik surgery is a 20-minute procedure. Try to apply the lasik surgery model to standard treatments for, say, a 60-year-old with serious heart disease.

I'm betting these are all the most common drugs as well, the asthma medicines, diabetic etc. Fall outside the common complaint category and try to get cheap meds from Wallmart

The 'buying Chinese because it's cheap' comparison is quite apt to my mind.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Every store has a ton of things made in China. Target, Meijer, Borders, Barnes & Noble, Hallmark, Harbor Freight, Sears, Kmart, the list goes on.

Can you name for me a major store that does not sell a ton of made in China stuff?

Its not generics that are the problem. You can get generics pretty cheaply at whatever pharmacy that you go to. Its everything else that is under 20 year patent protection that's driving up the cost of drugs. How is walmart going to fix that?

They can buy drugs from China. They ignore patents all the time.

They can buy drugs from China. The world has turned a blind eye to China's patent infringements.

Lets ignore the quality issue of that, They would have to sell it in China. US patent protections would apply if they tried to sell it in the US, even if it was made in China.

I was shocked by a TV ad I saw when I first moved here that showed two elderly men queuing up at the pharmacy and being charged different amounts of money for the same exact thing - as if it was the most normal thing in the world.

"You, I'll give it to you for $49.99. Because I like your face"

"You, I don't like - give me $200!"
