I have been researching the process of bringing my Step-Son to live with his mother and I and I hope I can get some guidance from those who have gone trhu the process.

I will be submitting:

Cover Letter

I-130 Apllication

Fee for I-130

Copy of my Birth Certificate (photo copy?)

Copy of Step-Son's Birth Certificate w/ copy of translation (is photo copies ok or originals?)

Copy of our Marriage Certificate (photo copy?)

Copy of Quit Claim w/ translation (photo copies?)

Copy of my previous marriage Divorce Decree (photo copy?)

Copy of my wife's previous marriage Divorce Decree w/ translation (photo copies ok?)

Is this all that is needed to be submitted?

What happens after we submit?

Do we need to gather any other evidence or fill out any other forms before his interview?

If someone could please explain the process it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike&Huong

My husband do I-130 for his step daughter too. I think you should read CR1 step. It's the same process

First.....you send all document with translate to USCIS and wait till they approve. Read this How to fill I-130

And while you wait read this NVC Shortcut. It's a step to do AFTER your son case been approve. How to save your time with NVC? This is an answer. Hope you guys good luck.

:crying: I believed that the process would be easier for the children. Silly me.

The process will be the same as CR1 and if your child can write they should sign the form by themself.

For my case my daughter just 3 years old then I sign for her and put my name in the back as "Mother".

My stepson's I-130 was just approved and we are going through NVC right now. I spoke with an operator, who told me that my husband should sign all the forms. (My stepson is 9). Also, you are going to have to submit a letter from the children's father granting permission to immigrate to the U.S. We sent ours in with the DS 230.

Good luck

I also posted this in the regional forum, maybe to get some input from someone that went thru the same process at the same consulate we will be going thru.

One person from our region stated that it is also important to submit sufficient evidence that we are married and are living together. I understood that we need to submit our marriage certificate which proves our marriage, but didn't know they want more evidence showing residence together. Is this region specific or standard? It is not a big problem, just more work than was expecting, since our relationship was just verified earlier this year during our removal of conditions process.

Thanks,

Mike

When I contacted the Bogota Embassy I was told the same thing and sent the information such as pictures together etc. Basically what we took to the AOS interview just a little more updated info........

Why is it that the only one who can stop the crying is the one who started it in the first place?

I have a question in regards to the actual interview for my step son. My wife and I are living in the US and her son is living with her parents. Do we need to be present at the interview or is it possible for her mother to take him to the interview and for us to arrive after he receives the visa? We were hoping we could come after he gets the visa because my wife's brother is getting married later in the year and we were hoping to make 1 trip for both.

Also any infor about the actual interview would also be helpful.

Thanks

At the interview for the boys their dad was able to make it I was not there ( I am the USC ). My hubby stated that most of the questions pertained to the relationship between him and I . The CO looked at one picture on a trip I took earlier that year of me and the boys and that was it. Make sure you send the co mingling informaiton also to the interview. Thye took copies of the past 3 years taxes from my hubby, he had to go out and make another set becasue I have only sent one set but had 2 boys so they wanted one for each file. Check with the embassy to see what type of permission the grandparents may need to be able to enter with your son.
