You could apply for B2/Tourist visa in the interm. Inform the consul during interview that you have a pending K1 but your current visit will be for the birth of your child while your K1 is in process.

Many people apply for tourist visas during the K1 process to visit their fiance[e].

Tourist visa, but you wouldn't be able to remain in the US for extended periods of time.

If you're not already married, a K-1 is the only Visa that would allow you to enter the US and be permitted to remain (as long as you do certain things once you're here). If you were already married - K-3/CR-1 would be your options (but they're not and even if they were, they're not necessarily fast at all, much less faster than a K-1).

You're only real alternatives if a Visitor/Tourist Visa if not a VWP country.

You won't be the first person to miss the birth of a child while waiting for the visa. It happens all the time.

Ditto. Lack of self control or protection is not a reason your visa will be processed quicker.
