My husband has been bugging me about Las Vegas since I moved here :P and I think I have finally caved..

We are thinking of going in between Christmas and New Years for a night or two...

right now I am leaning towards Mandalay Bay or Trump International Hotel, both are about 100 bucks a night...

I know I could get a way cheaper hotel but we are only staying for a night or two so I figured we could stay at a somewhat nicer hotel...

anyways I wondered if anyone had any opinions on either of those hotels or know of one that is better but around that same price range and close to the strip...

Haven't stayed at either, but Mandalay Bay has a wave pool and a shark aquarium :) Of course, you don't have to stay there to see the aquarium. I'd be sure to see that, either way.

Mandalay Bay is at the extreme southern end of the Strip. It's the last major Strip hotel.

That's too far down, for my tastes.

I prefer to be closer to the center - around NY/NY / Caesars is the "sweet spot" imho.

We are thinking of going there too! For the Christmas weekend. Since we don't celebrate Christmas (we're a Jewish/Buddhist couple) we figured we could get discounts when all you Xians wanna be with family and nobody is thinking Vegas. We're looking at a Southwest getaway package for airfare+hotel 3 nights, probably going to go with New York New York.

Good luck with getting a rate of $100 per night.... Everyone would prefer to be in the mainstream, but those rates are over $250 per night...unless you are a gambling fool......Then it's free, until you payout your losses.

Hooters Hotel is nice, right across the street from the MGM.

We're getting quotes for NY/NY for $80/night. There's a recession on. Vegas is hungry for business.

I see something close to that, so cheers. Having stayed in the Las Vegas Hilton, I can appreciate the "strip proximity". However, if you just need to be in the zone, the hotel placement does not matter. If the hotel window view is paramount, then reconsider. Either way, ground transportation rocks....you can get anywhere.

Hey, we'll be happy to crash your wedding parties! :jest:

we will be driving up so we will have a car so I don't mind of it is a little far from the strip...

Yeah, but you don't really want to drive up and down the strip. That gets to be a royal pain. It's much better to walk and use the tram services. I still say central Strip location is primo.

that is supposed to be good for shows.. you have to go to the different tix4tonight booths in Vegas and you can get discounted tickets for shows for that night.. they open at 10am but they say it is best to go early to get in line..
