Where in the world did you guys get such cheap passport photos?!

Mine cost like 70 dollars for like 10 all together!

Costco! 1 set of prints was $10...so my bad, it was like $30 for the 3 sets

Do not go to Sears. It's like $20 for 2 pictures!

how many sets of passport photos should i get?

You're going to need at least 7. I suggest getting 10.

Really, the only way to get in on a work visa is to have a trade where they can prove that no one who is already there can do your job (ex. doctors teachers etc usually have an easier time) but with unemployment so high I dont think it would be easy to get in on that.

The only thing you can really do is go on a visit and stay up to 6 months. You wouldn't be able to work but you would be together. There really is no logical way you could live in the US and work while the K-1 is processing, unfortunately. If there was a lot of us would have done it. Work visas for people who aren't in highly skilled trades have become nearly impossible to obtain.

Walgreens offers passport photos at a good price. I think I paid $7 a set.

Nope, its not stupid to do, its just harder to do...mainly because of the ties to the US stuff and proving you're coming back. Some people have no issues, other ppl get stamped with a limit of time they can be in the country, others get denied all together. Its worth a shot but its not something we generally recommend just because there have been people on this board who have had such huge issues getting through the border. Its all on the whim of the border guards, you may be perfectly fine as some have been or you may not be allowed through (which if you are trying to go for 6 months will probably mean you've giving up your job etc etc)

It's possible so I don't think you need specific examples of people. I wouldn't worry about that.

I would worry more about 1. proving ties to Canada and 2. being unemployed for 5 or 6 months, unless you have enough money saved to carry you over.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Exactly.

You can stay up to six months, that isn't the problem, the problem is proving to the border person that you have strong ties to Canada and that you are going to return before the 6 months is up.

So as thetreble said, if you quit your job and give up your Canadian accomodation - what strong ties do you have? Now, they may not even ask - but what if they do and you don't have that proof and they send you home - then what.

But of course, it's personal choice if you want to give it a go.
