Hep B needed for K-1 visa holder? AOS interview?

Hi friends,

My understanding was that K1 visa holders only need:

Varicela

MMR

Tetnus

and PPD (tuberculosis test)

Now the lady from the clinic tells me he will need Hep B. hmmm. but the US approved doctor in Ecuador marked that that was "not age appropriate". And when reading documents elsewhere, it all says that Hep B is only until 18 years of age. But this lady insists! So should we just go with it, pay the extra $75-100 to "be safe"? or go with the knowledge we have from other sources?

Also, we got curious the other day.... it seems that not everyone gets an interview for AOS. is that the case? Do some folks receive their greencard (2 year) in the mail without having to go to an interview, or is there definitely an interview for everyone? Is it best to submit evidence with the AOS forms (photos, joint bank account etc...) or can most of that wait for the actual INTERVIEW?

I'd appreciate your ideas!

Thanks

claire

  1. I do not think you need Hep B and I think you will be fine since it was marked as not age appropriate by the doctor in Ecuador.
  2. Yes, some do get their GC w/out an interview. This normally happens if your case is transferred to CSC.
  3. No need to submit any "evidence" other than your marriage cert w/ the AOS. Evidence will be needed only at the interview if you have one.

AOS: 08/08/2009 (mailed I-485, I-765, & I-131) - 10/29/2009 (received GC)

Didn't your SO get a medical in Armenia? or is it Ecuador? why you put Armenia in timeline?, is you fiance here yet? if so there was no need to go to a doctor here in the USA at POE your fiance handed in the sealed envelope containing everything including the medical.

Some clinics here confuse you and make you have another exam just to get your money!. Who told you to get a doctor here in USA?.

Yes, my SO got his medical in Ecuador (for some reason the pull down menu doesn't let me choose Ecuador, I don't know why!), since he got a K1 visa.

however K1 visa holders must have vaccine supplements, that's why we are going to a designated civil surgeon to get that part of the form filled out (I693)

They are only charging $25 to fill out the form---it's the vaccines that cost!

that's why we want to avoid getting costly vaccines that aren't necessary to satisfy USCIS and get the AOS done.

Thanks for the responses, So we won't worry about getting the Heb B I guess, and also won't worry about submitting too much evidence with AOS.

The vaccines should have bee given in Ecuador, they didn't? cause I understood in Ecuador is like Chile, they take care o vaccines over there, you don't need I693!!!.

What we did is attach a a copy of my hubby's vaccine record given in Chile to the AOS paperwork, and I put a note below they copy : "Vaccines record in sealed envelope handed at POE". And voila! he got the 2 year GC.

Take care,

I didn't get any Hep. B shots. My CS didn't even suggest it. I just had MMR and Varicella (both) done in my country and T-dap done here. Some shots can be done free at the Health Dept if you want to save some money. However, that may involve some waiting time to set up an appointment with them.

Hope that helps.

Cheers and all the best.

I must be missing something here, because I am seriously confused about the medical requirements and vaccines. Mamaronga, you mention that the US-approved Ecuadorian doctor marked "not age-appropriate" on the medical form for a certain vaccine, and I've seen other references-- in the guides ("submit a copy of that medical check form") and in the FAQs ("You should simply send in a copy of the I693 [sheet that lists your vaccinations] that your doctor should have provided overseas when you had your medical")-- that make it seem like I should have RETAINED some part or a copy of the medical forms when we had my fiance's medical exam done in Ecuador. But I have never even SEEN any part of his medical exam--weasn't this all in the sealed envelope handed in at the K-1 interview? I definitely don't have any original or even copy of anything done in Ecuador, other than the chest x-ray.

Bottom line: How do I know what vaccines my fiance needs? I'm getting conflicting answers from the Civil Surgeons here in Colorado. The other problem is that my fiance has NO VACCINE RECORD. What do we do to find out? The I-693 form makes it seem like we need all vaccinations listed.

Were your fiance given a photocopy of the DS-3025 (vaccination supplement) by the doctor who did the K-1 medical? I was given a copy of that and I took it to the CS here to transfer to I-693. I believe your fiance can check the type of vaccination required according to his age on CDC site. If he does not have the vaccination record here, he will have either take the shots again or perform a titer test on the vaccines required to find out if he indeed needs to do the shots at all.

Hope that helps.

Cheers and all the best.

Thanks a bunch, NCWife. That does help. I think I'll just call the doctor in Ecuador who performed my fiance's exam and see if there's any way to get a copy of the DS 3025, because we don't have it, either in original or copy form. And if not, like you say, I'll just have to get his vaccines again.
