Has anyone ever met up with other K1 or other types of visa folks who live in the same area (of the U.S.), regardless of country of origin? I think it'd be great to meet up with people who understand fully what it's like to be in the middle of immigration. I know I'm not very far along in my own timeline, but it's different talking about it to friends and relatives who don't "get" it (not that I blame them; I had no idea of this underground current before 6 months ago).

I've never met anyone but I've been here only since July. I'm sure many have, both in the US & beneficiary country.

There's probably more incentive to meet in the beneficiary country as the couples would be together at that time,

with at least one member of each being on vacation. Would make it more interesting.

I'm going to Thailand next week. I hope to meet a famous resident farang this time.

We've been in e-mail contact for a few years and this may be the time for that.

I'm in NYC and centrally located, so it would be easy for me to meet on my lunch break.

Hey there,

We all email each other on here but I am sure a few have met up and we are all here to support each other...

Feel free to email any of us... We all know what it's like to go through the whole having to explain to friends and family that it is not that simple just to get married and live over there, not many understand all the legal stuff and immigration unless they have been through it themselves..

I don't mean to say my family doesn't empathize with my love of travel, but...

Almost 40 years ago I studied at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon.

Mom: "Where's that darling, near Singapore?"

Me: "No, you Turn left at the planet Druidia and and make a right turn at planet Spaceball."

Then I went to Afghanistan.

Where's that?

Just go to the dark side of the moon and stick your thumb out.

Then I went to Ethiopia:

Isn't that where Mussolini had a summer place?

Then I went to Japan:

Oh that's where they make all those nice figurines with the "Made in Japan" printed on the bottom.

Is that a suburb of China?

Then I went to Thailand:

Don't leave me, do you have a return ticket?

Yes I'll be going next Monday and returning on Halloween (Emirates Airlines).

...thinking now what kind of Halloween masks will the flight attendants wear?

Obama? Osama? or Warren Buffet?

I don't mean to say my family doesn't empathize with my love of travel, but...

That made me thinking about my mother asking me "Why do you always feel like you need to go away? What are you fleeing from?"

When I was 6, there was that village called Schneckenbush (I loved that name) next to mine, well it was 4 miles away.

I loved to plan "expeditions" and ride my bike just to go there and "explore" that place!

It used to make my parents to laugh.

I grew up on the french-german border, therefore I never thought borders were limits.

As I got older, I pushed the distance limit further and further...

I'm wondering why my parents are still surprised.

So yes, telling my mother I'm going to marry an american guy was just the cherry on the cake!

I love to fly Emirates.

I remember a flight with this company where there was extra icecream... and the hostess was coming every 20mns to check if we wanted some more...

I stopped at 3!

I change my residence often, out of fear, because I read that 90% of car crashes occur within 10 miles of home, and I want to get away before I have an accident, si man.

Regarding up-meeting, the only VJ couple that my then-fiancee & I met was a CR-1 couple -- in Guayaquil, Ecuador, after WE had been hosed by the ####### consulate and before THEY got hosed by the ####### consulate.

I dimly recall reading that some MENA couples arranged a meet-up in the Houston area not many weeks ago.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I too have "wanderlust and travel often. I belong to a group called couchsurfing.org

It is a great group of people around the world where you can connect with others and offer your "couch" to other travelers and stay with other travelers. I find it is wonderful way to meet locals wherever I go and I have hosted people from all over. Everyone has the same idea to get to know other cultures through interactions and exchanges. I have stayed with very nice and diverse people all over Europe. I have hosted people from Laos, Germany, Brasil, Portugal, Sweden, Latvia and Japan and loved the exchanges...

As far as the OP, I have not met anyone through VJ personally, but I am sure it might be nice. As someone before said, perhaps for the SO's to help in transition.
