A woman and a girl received minor injuries when a gun dealer inadvertently fired a loaded handgun during a gun show in Mesa late Saturday morning, police said.

Police responded to the Mesa Convention Center about 11:30 a.m. to a call of a shot being fired during a gun show, said Det. Mike Melendez, a police spokesman.

Investigators learned that a presenter at the gun show brought a loaded gun into the event, which is not permitted, Melendez said.

"That person left the gun behind at the table," Melendez said. "Later on someone was manipulating the gun and it went off."

A woman was struck in the neck, while a young girl suffered scratches. Their injuries were not considered serious or even "gunshot wounds," Melendez said.

"We are trying to determine whether someone could be charged with a crime or not," Melendez said.

The investigation will be sent for review by the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, which will determine whether unlawful use or discharge of a firearm charges are warranted.

The Crossroads of the West Gun Show began Saturday and ends Sunday.

Guns usually don't, Connie.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Dumbfuck! First thing you do is clear a weapon, before handling it.

Treat all weapons as loaded.

You think he should have his gun dealer's license revoked?

Fined, suspended, or revoked, if he had an FFL. He is civilly liable I would think, as is the person that handled the weapon when it discharged.

No. Not for an accident. If I were the promoter he would never be back in my show, that's for sure. But does the federal government need to get involved because of an accident? No. An incident such as this is extremely rare, in fact this is the first I have ever heard of at a gun show.

Just glad on one got killed! Accidents do happen, and I am sure this person that broke the rules or law here will be punished accordingly! :innocent:

I'll kinda side. However, this SOB better pay up for ALL medical expenses and future derivatives of his "accident" due to his own stupidity.

I agree. Inexcusable...he should have his license permanently revoked.

There is no such thing as an accident involving a loaded gun. It's a "negligent discharge", not an "accidental discharge". Anyone who knows anything about guns knows that you handle them all as if they were loaded. And keep your fingers off the damn trigger unless you plan on shooting something.
