Is one visit enough to pass the interview at the Philippines. We met online at the end of February 2009. I visited in May 2009 for 10 days. We were together the whole time. We were formally engaged with an engagement party. I gave her a ring. I think i have enough proof of ongoing relationship. YM chat records for everyday, phone bills, emails, and 100's of pictures. I have a limited amount of vacation time. We both thought saving the time for when she arrives to adjust here and get kids enrolled in school would be better use of time than another visit. I plan to make the trip there to bring her back to the USA, and then have a week off. But I'm wondering if I need to make a trip for her interview to make sure there is more than one visit.

Only 6 months chatting online and 'one' 10 day visit. Yes, that's enough to get the petition approved, but I'd say you'd want to visit a few more, times just for your own relationship to develope more than anything else. There's NO substitute for spending face-2-face time together.

Its easier said than done, as long as they know their relationship is healthy and successful, one time is enough for them. personally for me that would never be the case, everyone is different but maybe they can not afford to meet more than once for 10 days. work and school can only be examples of what keeps them away from each other and what enables them to meet more.

If you can't afford a simple airfare to visit the person more than once, then you have no business bringing someone to the USA!

Ding Ding Ding....post of the day. And to all these people that say sometimes it's not feasible always to make more than one trip. MAKE it a priority. Marriage is a life long commitment whether immigration is involved or not. Would anyone here marry someone from down the street after meeting once....heck no that's crazy, right? Think about it. I see my fiance twice a month, it burns a hole in my pocket quicker than you can believe but at the end of the day it's worth it.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Visits are definitely important, but not immediately or readily possible for some people. I am in Malaysia right now and it will cost my fiance USD2000 for a return ticket plus other expenses. While he makes enough to support himself, and me, after we get married, it is still a sizable amount of money. It costs less to fly from the United States to Europe because of the shorter distance. This is not the same for many Asian countries.

It took almost an act of god to get enough time away from work to travel to the other side of the world to visit my finance for 10 days. With that said we spend 5-6 hours a night talking. That is more than a lot of couples living in the same city. Have read that some consulates require it because of customs, but not all.

Without the relationship advice, maybe the K1 advice is a little redundant :innocent:

What makes any of us an expert on the OP's relationship? Does anyone know them?

If not, then keep to the question and take care of your own relationship as you see fit.

Noone has to be an expert in something in order to pass a comment on it.

A sturdy relationship is paramount when it's long distance. Probably more so than a 'normal' relationship. Only meeting face-2-face for a few days before deciding to marry isn't a way to build a sturdy relationship. It's all very well to say 'we chat online for X number of hours each night" as we all do (myself included) but I'm not naive enough to think that alone is enough. I'd not judging, I'm just passing on 'good' relationship advice.

There is such a thing as (common sense) again if in same city would u go out once and say lets gets married? FOr some it might work others no. But then again you can be married for 14 years after knowing and working together in same company and still not know each other. Its life. Talk on a computer is very different than seeing the actions each day time invested to know is a very wise investment, there are no guarantees either way.

It can't be stressed enough - this is a family based immigration site, not a relationship advice site. Of course a strong relationship is of the utmost importance, but its impossible to judge the quality of others' relationships here. Let's stick to giving immigration advice.

I was not giving any advice at all. I was giving specific immigration information regarding questions asked at the consulate in Manila. My post made no speculation on the purpose of the question or the need for multiple visits. The post contained absolutely no relationship advice or judgements. It was a statement of fact. Perhaps you should stick to giving immigration information rather than looking for posts to criticize.

In fact, your post speculates on what the vast majority of answers would be. Speculations are not sound information and are often flawed.
