Obviously it is not enough to keep you out and not enough to lure your husband to be with YOU in Canada. CERTAINLY it MUST have been part of your decision, yes? You make it sound important and all, but not enough to be the deal breaker on where you (and your husband choose to live) Better job maybe here? Why? Why isn't that job in Canada? I mean it is clear your decision was based on any number of things and you and your husband chose the way you did for your own reasons. Healthcare isn't one of them.

I mean we still own a really nice flat in downtown Donetsk Ukraine and choose to live here, even though I could (and have) lived there (and Canada) and choose to pay a mortgage here when our place in Donetsk is owned free and clear, and THEY have free health insurance..oops, not free, government run.

It just strikes me as funny that the supposed importance of this (life and death important as this thread implies...by the way. glad to see you have recovered from your mourning of the 22 year gilr that died, that didn't take long) so strong and our country so relies on it, yet we are told this by people that left a similar system. Such things are not necessarily important except in some politically expedient way. They never are the deal breakers in life (my wife is not here for the health care either) yet the proponents of which will tell us they are.

As you have already been told, I AM THE USC. Methinks before you start mouthing off again at me you better check my profile to make sure before you type. Your comment that Canada is no place for kids was rather stupid and out of line. My daughter would rather be there because of the loving family she has there. Anymore insults you wish to trade?

I wanted to emigrate...but I couldn't because of my daughter so my husband came here. I firmly believe she would get better care for her health issues up there than down here. Anything else you want to know?

I have felt a great deal of sympathy for that poor girl...yet you presume to say whether I have or not, or the amount of mourning? You just can't stand that someone actually dares to disagree with you and you've already proven that you don't know half of what you say. YOU haven't provided links or facts to back up a darn thing you've spouted on here all day.

I'm done with this. You believe how you wish. I will do the same.

I really don't care if you agree with me, and I will not divert the debate to incidentals (like it matters who is the USC?) Typical of people debating the relative merits of government health care, distract from the topic. Banter about who is the USC or bash someone because you don;t think an irrelevent joke is funny. You want links from me? Are you kidding me? Is someone more relevent because they post links to internet sites supporting what they say? LOL So if I post some links aganst health care, you will change your mind? Too ridiculous to discuss.

Gary shouldn't be talking trash to other cultures if he doesn't want a bit of it back in his face, you know?

Gary:

RJ is very jealous of your wife and well, RJ knows she envious of your wife so thus she attacks you will such silly rude remarks, any man from the USA that has been to Ukraine knows what you are talking about and well RJ is the very reason she probably had to go to the UK for hers because no USA man is interested in they typical USA attitude for a woman that she displays, fact not fiction. Comparing Alla to RJ is like comparing a Mercedes to a Lada!

Nope. Wrong again, but we are used to that. I went to the Ukraine Bride Catalog for Quality, not many of them are rich, so no money talking their. They had a special on Alla that month, slightly used, a couple of dings but low mileage for her age, great bumpers and fenders, small headlights but I prefer driving in the dark myself. I chewed them down on the sticker price and got a great deal...so far anyway.

So what's the going price for a used Brit nowadays?

About the same as you paid. Doesn't depreciate quite as much as your model, though. There's a nice healthcare return on the investment if you drive it back to its country of origin.

Plus it doesn't arrive in the US looking for flashy bumpers and fenders. It can get those over there nicely on it's own - thriving economy and all that you know.

Gary was not trash talking, everything he was talking about was the fact and truth of the matter, and it was actual first hand experience of an American in Canada witnessing just how their national healthcare plan worked. That is not trash talking.

Oops. Well there goes that reading comprehension thing again.

Agreed, bad situation for you, glad you made it, the USA healthcare definitely is not perfect in it's current state and well neither is the Canadian one, I would have hoped that the great messiah Ovomit would have taken a hybrid model to present to Congress for passage, which would have made a majority happy and served everyone fairly and least costly, the way it is now, Ovomit has let the big health insurance industry lobbyist take total control of this health care reform and lead him and the Democrats around by the nose big time, and I am a Democrat, it is truly pathetic how my party is operating right now and has been for past 9 months, just a joke!

(F) Poor girl.

Graduated college and working 2 jobs, neither of which provided insurance?

You know, you save a sinking ship by letting those who can't pull their own weight go overboard.

She obviously wasn't working any real jobs...not too bright for a double major.

It's called the economy. Teachers who just graduated from college are working at the mall because there are no openings.

Agreed, that was a stupid comment, she was working at least and 2 jobs, and this is one of the worst times for looking for a job ever for anyone! Not only teachers looking for jobs but lots of other people with different degrees looking for any job now that is unrelated to their degree.

Since state law requires I have auto insurance, shouldn't they provide that free as well? Guess I am use to paying for anything I get, even with my life during my military days. Don't understand this concept of getting things for free. Sure paid the USCIS enough money with very poor service to bring my wife here and get creamed royally on taxes for stuff I don't even want.

To help ease our tax burden, we are trying flex plan this year, going positively nuts with it, just can't go out and buy say contact lenses and make copies of that invoice to include that with that long form I have to feel out. Also have to contact my insurance company to have them send me a letter where any form of eye correction is not covered by any of our health insurance carriers. That is turning out to be a royal pain in the a$$. And if we don't use it, we lose it.

Saw my dentist last Wedsneday, lost a filling, it's not like we don't have a ten year payment history with him, had to sign a bunch of forms assuming all liability for the bill with different forms for payment options. He doesn't work for free either. And I am not sure if I am even worth the price of getting a new filling the way rates have skyrocketed over the years. Wasn't to long ago, could get a baby for all prenatal, delivery, and hospital expenses for a weeks paycheck. Today, can't even get a damn tooth filled for a weeks paycheck!

We use to be able to deduct health care expenses on our income tax returns, they don't do that anymore. I did read about HAS, twisted my brain so bad, had to spent three weeks in a rest room. Who in the ** is coming out with this sh!t?

Kind of gives me an notion that our congress is not representing us, so why do we even bother voting? It wasn't this way even 24 years ago, back then, all you had to give to your country was your life, today, they want all of your money.

Also read the latest admission forms from our hospital, it all boils down to that death is perfectly natural. It's also an escape from those huge bills, but watch out for your loved ones, they can get stuck with it.

the medical care does NOT come directly from your taxes in Canada unless you are in some sort of fantasy province I never heard of. In addition to the money which DOES come from income tax, there are provincial and federal sales taxes (15% in Quebec)which are required ONLY because a large portion of your income tax is used for healtcare. Quebecois also pay for health insurance when they register vehices to cover the costs of motor vehicle accidents, upwards of $300 per year now, JUST for the medical tax, oops, insurance.

Quebec is distinct from the rest of the country, so is a poor example. You should know that, having "lived" there. Obviously I lived in those "fantasy" provinces, as I never once received a healthcare bill. Not even a call by, from, or to an insurance carrier. It was covered by my taxes.

Krikit, how long have you been alive to not understand that the government exploits various avenues to collect tax? There is no such as "this tax is for that and this tax is for another" Horsesqueeze. The reason one tax is needed is because other tax was spent on somethign else. Do you beleiev a toll on the road only pays for the road? If so, why are there so few toll roads? How do we pay for others? in the end it is all income into one bucket and all expenses out of it, any other illusion is just that, an illusion. If Canada ended the healthcare today they could end the sales tax also and pay for whatever the sales tax pays for with income tax. I mean this is a silly game Kriket, I would hope you can do better than this.

wildtangent-1.gif

And "how could this be" that our hospitals are full of Quebecois? LOL The scene is repeated all along our northern border, it is well known and the reaons are well known and not only that...many Canadian doctors leave their country and come here to work also! No need to take my word for it. Look up Northwestern Medical center in St. Albans. Tell what THAT hospital is doing in a county of 8000 population? Look at the Google map of where it is. LOL Notice anything? what is the nearest major city? Montreal Quebec Canada. Burlington, 22 miles down the road already has TWO big hospitals PLUS a University Medical School for a population of 50,000. So what exactly did they need a huge hospital in st, Albans for?

You obviously missed my post earlier in the thread. Here. I'll repost it for you.

Cross-border shopping and healthcare goes both ways, Gary. Only you don't hear a bunch of Canadians screaming "It's a conspiracy!" when they see American plates on the Canadian side of the border. There are reciprocal agreements between US and Canadian healthcare facilities all along the northern border. Just ask the Americans in Michigan who have their babies in Ontario. I suggest you become better informed.

LOL you can make jokes all you want and the prolem remains the same, but that's OK because you and Krikit already fled your country for the healthCARE here. see how it works?

I have yet to use the "healthCARE" system in the US. I don't even understand how you consider this a valid statement.

The National Health system in canada pays for care in the US ONLY if the person has exceeded the waiting time determined for that procedure, other wise they pay for it themsleves. So what you are saying is that a LOT of people in Canada are waiting a LONG time for health care that so many come here. Actually Kriket, I have to opportunity to speak to them and know that the vast majority are more wealthy or affluent Canadians and they do not wish to wait for more than one year for an MRI so they can come to Vermont and have the government pay for it.

No. If it is not an emergency, you wait in line. If it is an emergency, you go to the head of the line. If you choose not to wait in line you have the option to go elsewhere and the cost will be covered. Where is the problem?

And I certainly welcome the canadians at our shopping centers. Their presence make available for ME many shopping and medical opportuniteis I would other wise not have, they are my good friends. No conspiracy is implied or needed, we have no tax on clothes, shoes, food in Vermont. Quebec has a 15% tax. Drive a few minutes to Vermont and save 15%, PLUS our prices are much lower (yeah the whole exhange rate thing kinda narrows that gap, but still, assuming equal value after exchange, the save 15% on tax) And hey, while they are here they fill up the gas tank for 1/3 less. There is NO cpnspriacy, let me be clear for those of you that always see one. This is purely economics 101. It is cheaper in Vermont. It is cheaper because we do not have government healthcare, Vermont is just a short drive and given several quiet and slow border crossing points, never a hassel or long lines to wait crossing the border (I usually do it at Nolin, QC) so hey, Porquois pas????????!!!!!!!!

Pay me now or pay me later. At least your "good friends" won't have to lose everything they own and declare bankruptcy or die if they can't pay now. Or later.

Oh thank you. I stand corrected. There is NO hospital in St Albans. I NEVER see Canadian lisence plates in our hospitals and shopping malls. All is OK, Canada is great, governemnt helath care is great. I will go write that 100 times now and I will recover soon from my optical dillusions. Repeat after me....

I want to be like Dr, House. I want to be like Dr. House. I want to be like Dr. House.I want to be like

<snip>

If one knew who Dr House was one might be amused at whatever point you were trying to make here.

Well, pardon a moi. Be that as it Mae. I agree, Canada is no place for kids.

It's pardonnez-moi. But you would know that.... having lived there and all.

I noticed that and actually lost my interest for the gold-digging American girls in Montreal. Ended up with a Ukrainian though who have much the same thoughts but demand, in addition, that their men be fantastic in bed.
