You said you don't go either for a flu.

Who does that? It's flu, not bubonic plague.

You cropped the part where Tamara called her dumb for not going to the ER.

Many people wouldn't have gone, with or without insurance.

Im pretty sure that was my point. I said the that too in an earlier thread that with or without insurance, whether you went to the doctor or not doesnt mean you are or not safe from the swine flu. And I said that bcz of the last quote in AJs very first post.

It seems that the point goes over the heads of everyone that supports government health care (big surprise)

Healthcare cannot possibly be the issue here. This girl had access to health care without insurance, at her local emergency room. It would not have cost her a dime and the good people of this country would have picked up the tab. But she chose NOT to go to the free health care she already had. Would anyone suggest that WHO the health care was provided by would make a difference in her decision? daft.

The girl made a bad call in estimating her symptoms and died. Too bad, but no one's fault but her own.

Mowery said Young eventually went to an urgent care facility in Hamilton where she was given pain medication and then sent home.

Looks like she did go to a facility but sent home with pain medications. So she wasn't all that dumb.

....and because she made a "bad decision" or wasn't obviously working a "real job" she doesn't deserve anything but judgmental and sarcastic comments? Humanity at its best it seems....

You are right.

Had the government been running her health care, and Obama been looking after her like a good President SHOULD and we should expect, evrything would have been Ok and today she would be playing frisbee at the beach on her day off from her "living wage" job (she wouldn't need two jobs) with her black and white border collie, and her hunky boyfriend, the sun is shining (it only rains at night now, Obama fixed that so we can enjoy our days off) the water is clean (you can drink it now, no need for treatment plants anymore) and when the day is done they will drive home in their Hybrid car which are now given FREE to all Americans (it is our right, you know)

Gosh she could have been so much more if it wasn't for the damn healthcare system in this country that destroys lives and makes a the laughing stock of the USA in the world and makes it so almost no one wants to come here. I mean who would WANT to??? Certainly NO ONE from a country with government health like......Mexico, Cuba, yeah, damn, if only this girl lived in Mexico where they have FREE healthcare (and more than 300 times the number of deaths from swine flu) this wouldn't happen. If only she could have gotten to the airport and hijacked a plane to Havana...she would be saved! If only she had been born a Canadian instead of a US citizen, it simply isn't fair she should suffer so just because she had the bad luck to be born in the USA. :crying::crying::crying:

Now do you feel better?

No I don't. I don't understand the lack of humanity in some of these comments. If YOU didn't have health insurance, what would YOU do? Would you go to the ER knowing you couldn't pay and take comfort in knowing that others would foot your bill? How do any of you people know she didn't TRY to find a job in her chosen field? Remember the job situation in THIS country? It's pathetic!!! So rather than feeling bad that this poor girl is gone, let's all be sarcastic and judge her as being stupid. Yeah, that's the AMERICAN way right?

Would you go to the ER knowing you couldn't pay and take comfort in knowing that others would foot your bill? Yes, because I would be ALIVE to take comfort and I am one of the "others" footing the bill with my taxes. If we have government healthcare others would be footing the bill anyway and you have no problem with that, why should I? How do any of you people know she didn't TRY to find a job in her chosen field? And what difference does that make, I thought this was about healthcare Remember the job situation in THIS country? It's pathetic!!! So rather than feeling bad that this poor girl is gone, let's all be sarcastic and judge her as being stupid. Yeah, that's the AMERICAN way right?

Yes, I would go to the emergency room if I deemed it necessary for my well being or someone in my family and no I wouldn't worry about the cost. This poor girl died, and so did many other people today. It was NOT because of lack of health care, it was because she had swine flu (and probably some other underlying condition as in most cases of death from swine flu) and people die from that if they do not seek care, or sometimes, even if they do. By far, rhe vast majority of people who die of swine flu in this country, do so in a hospital. The USA has among the lowest (if not the lowest) incidence of death from swine flu, countries with government health care have much higher instances of death from this disease, most notably Mexico. Obviously the reason she died was not "health care" that isn't run by the government.

I'm not disagreeing with you on the healthcare issue...it's the LACK of sympathy...empathy...whatever you want to call it. It's the judgmental attitude for this poor girl that bothers me so freakin much. And since you say you would use the ER because "you're one of the others who will foot the bill" I hope you're not one of those that complains about "the others" who use the ER knowing they can't pay for it. However, since you insist this IS about healthcare: It DOES make a difference about whether or not she had a job...some on this thread have made scathing remarks about her job situation...which they know nothing about. Without a decent job WITH benefits this is probably WHY she didn't go anhywhere to seek medical attention. Don't you realise that not all jobs offer healthcare, especially if it's a small business? Most part timers don't get benefits...ask my husband...ask any number of others who are unfortunately PT. That's what the job issue has to do with the healthcare issue.

What the heck, some of you guys?!!

She didn't initially seek healthcare because she didn't have any insurance!!!!! Where else in the western world does it even ENTER anyone's head TO NOT SEEK HEALTHCARE because THEY DON'T HAVE INSURANCE?!!!!! Aaargh!! :bonk:

It would never enter my head NOT to seek healthcare. However when I lived in Ukraine, which has free health care, I was always hoping I would never have to use it. I guess I would have taken what they have if I couldn't get the heck out of there and back to the USA.

Why are there so many Canadian lisence plates in the healthcare clinics in Northern Vermont and New York, especially the outpatient surgery and diagnostic clinics? Go to Vermont Radiology, the waiting room is full of Quebecois and 2-3 Vermonters. What gives? Why so many Quebec license plates in our hospital parking lots? I mean it would never enter MY head to LEAVE MY OWN COUNTRY for health care, why are so many Canadians and Mexicans coming here?

What the HECK are we doing with a huge modern hosptial, Northwestern Medical Center, in St. Albans Vermont???? There isn't enough people in Franklin county to support a SMALL hospital...but it is just a few miles from the Quebec border. Hmmm???? Could it be? You mean someone did a pro-forma for a big hosptial in a county with a population of about 8,000 and it looked viable? Maybe because it borders a Province with 7 million people with FREE healthcare! That wouldn't seem to be a good business decision, would it? I mean who would expect the people with FREE healthcare IN ANOTHER COUNTRY to fill up your hospital when the indigenous population could never support it. Yet the place is always busy. And just across the lake in equally sparsely populated Clinton County NY is ANOTHER huge hospital. Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital (CVPH) The medical industry is one of Vermont's biggest employers (2nd only to education) and there is only a little over 500,000 people in the state! By far the biggest concentration of medical facilities is the little populated NORTH end of the state. The entire state doesn't constitute a middle sized city in population yet abounds with seemingly endless jobs (there is no shortgage of medical related jobs here) in the medical industry and stiff compeition for nurses and such, to serve Canadians who have FREE healthcare in their home country. :wow:

Go figure! :bonk:

Next question...why so many Quebec license plates in our shopping malls? Could it be the 15% tax we DON'T have on food, shoes and clothes in Vermont? D'ya think? Canaidans flee their country every day to avoid their healthcare system AND the taxes that pay for it. Where will WE go if we have government health care? Better yet, where will the Canadians go and how will Canada pay for the increased burden when they can no longer escape and HAV to use the Canadian system?
