Okay, I have been reading VJ for many hours. My stress level has gone from a 10 to a one, although it still jumps once in awhile. We will be heading into the waters of petitioning for my wife and children to receive their green card. My question is: Will the residency card that we will be receiving have a notation that it is temporary? If so, since we were advised by so many people, is it wise to leave the country before the end of the first two years?

One more question: We will be paying quite a bit of money, and their will be 3 petitions, do we just pay with one check, or one for each card?

Thanks

There is no such thing as a Temporary Permanent Resident (and/or PR/Green Card). Just different expiration dates (i.e., 2 years vs 10 years). You're referring to PR status that is conditional - meaning based on marriage and if the conditions are met (2 years later) a new card will be issued which will be valid for 10 years. (Long way to go to say there's no difference between the privileges and benefits either card holder enjoys; such as travel, work, etc.)

As far as payment goes - I might be inclined to split them off into individual checks, 1 for each. but it is up to you.

DO they have their GC already? If so then yes there is no problem going to and coming fom Mexico.

Why is it that the only one who can stop the crying is the one who started it in the first place?

If they have the green cards, there SHOULD be no problem. If they don't, and they have only Advance Parole, carry a certified copy of your marriage certificate plus all other relevant paperwork with you. Also, before you enter Mexico, stop by the CBP station on the U.S. side and show them what you have, and ask whether they think it'll be OK to enable re-entry. In fact, you can phone any CBP port (in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, or California) and discuss your situation -- they'll be happy to help. Find a CBP station at http://www.cbp.gov and make the call, si man.

There is no notations of "temporary" Green cards. There is no such thing. They will receive a two year gren card which differs IN NO WAY from any other green card except the expiration date. You are free to travel back and forth to Mexico as much as you want using ONLY the green card as ID until it expires. Have fun. we live 6 miles from Quebec and travel to Canada several times a month( same rules apply to Mexico) My wife uses ONLY her green card to enter Canada and the US on our return. We go there several times a month, sometimes several times a week. sometimes just for lunch. Her favoirte place to buy cosmetics is in Canada and she will run up to Canada to buy lipstick. Your green card is fine. Anyone who advised you not to travel is wrong.

You are filing "applications", not petitions. YES you can put them all in one envelope, (better if you do) and YES you can write one check. Make sure it is the correct amount or ALL applications will be rejected. I did exactly this. Fee is $1010 for each person over age 14, $600 for each under 14.
