will a russian drivers license, and passport be enought to get state i.d. ,social security card, and u.s. drivers license?

Read the guides for the SSN, I think the passport and the I-94 is all that is required. Most states need the GC for a D/L, but also in some states they can drive as long as they have an International Driver's Permit.

In most states you would need the PR/Green Card to obtain either a State ID or Driver's License - it varies by state of course (some will want you to have just the NOA1 for the AOS, some at least the EAD card, but most will require the PR/Green Card).

You won't wait years - months is more like it.

Maybe.... and it depends on how far along she is in the process.

When my wife first arrived, she got a Social Security card using her Russian passport and EAD stamp. Next stop was the BMV and she got a State ID but no license. Her Russian license was good for 90 days or something like that but she wasn't allowed to get an Ohio license unitl she changed her immigration status. Her state ID expired when her immigration status did.

After we were married we went through quite a process trying to change her name on her Social Security card. Several trips later and the end result was basically that we should've just waited a few months until she was updated in the SAVE system. After she got her greencard we went back to the BMV and got her a new State ID that expired when her conditional greencard expired.

About a year later she passed the driving test and was issued a DL that's good for two or three years, whatever the standard is.

Our experience says that without the green card, you will have a very tough time obtaining any of those items.
That's strange. My (then fiancee) had a driver's license and social security card within a month of her arrival, and before we got married. Absolutely no need to wait for a "green card".

She applied for and received a state-id card the day after she arrived. Would have been the same day, except she arrived on a Sunday.

She applied for a social security card the day after she arrived - and had in in her hands in about 2 weeks.

The driver's license took a month - but only because she wanted more practice time before taking the test.

She got her permanent resident card 7 months after her arrival. Glad we didn't wait until then to get her other ID documents - that would suck.

PEOPLE: READ THE APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS!!!! They have a lot of good information in them! Most of the questions I see on VJ are clearly addressed by the form instructions. Give them a read!! If you are unable to understand the form instructions, I highly recommend hiring someone who does to help you with the process. Our process, from K-1 to Citizenship and U.S. Passport is completed. Good luck with your process.
