We all here get frustrated with this experience. We all feel it takes too long and is unnessecarliy complicated. But sometimes I reflect on one thing that comes back to me from time to time.

When I went to Ukraine to work and when I met Alla I was as clueless as could be about this process, I didn't even KNOW there was a k-1 or K-3 or CR-1 visa. Never heard of it. Never had need to. I met Alla by accident and in about 2 hours I knew I had just met my wife to be. I had no concerns or worries because I live in the USA and I KNEW there was a way to do this. I had no idea what it was, but I knew. I stood her at the Colonade in Odessa, in November 2007 and asked her to marry me without any clue how to do this (I didn't know until 4 months later when I found VJ) And no fear that I could not. Because this is the USA, it is a free country (so far) and I know there is always a way if one is determined. I guess it is the opportunity the country offers to it's citizens and legal immigrants, the CHANCE to do well. The CHANCE to make something of your life. It is also a country where people like those here will help you if you make an effort, pass on what they learn to try to make your jourmey easier.

Today is Alla's one year anniversary of her arrival and she will tell you it is not a fairy tale, it is not a nightmare. It is only a CHANCE at a good life, make it what you will.

Many thanks to our servicemen and women. Good luck, come home safe.

Well said Gary and Alla,

And thank you also for giving back to your VJ community. You and people like you are what make true citizens. It should'nt be a take, take community and if it is then we will lose what makes us great. I hope everyone can learn by your example. God bless you, Your story is very similar to ours. mari & joe

No comment for some " .... "

As way of living, not much difference from the country of my origin except for the other stuff that make things so handy.

For striving getting here, its the wise decision for our present and future. I might sound so ungrateful but it's not because this is America (where I am now), the "land of opportunity" (quoted in famous speech of my former President), is the reason why I moved. The reason why I moved here is the person whom I am spending the rest of my life for richer or poorer, and its just happen that he is an American.

Thanks for sharing, I realize alot of people may not feel patriotic right now for as long as they wait in this journey, just try to give back in your community, somehow, if even in a small way; its the only way to make a differance.

I remember being at the YMCA the morning the towers fell,

seeing them fall in real time from a distance as I was in mid-town Manhattan.

Today at the memorial ceremony will be one of my friends from the Y, a retired guy

who is well off financially, but still works very hard as a volunteer for the Y and

for their program to benefit camp programs for city kids. I have done

volunteer work for many years myself (Peace Corps & teaching TOEFL here)

and it is very rewarding.

My friend, "T" was the representative of the New York YMCA at the reading of the victims ceremony today.

As long as there are more people like him and fewer like Bernie Madoff, I think we will do OK.

I definetly find that my life was alot easier in the UK. So to me the USA wasn't about having a chance at a better life, it was a chance at a new life not many people from the UK will say that life is easier here in the USA.

My Husbands cousin has been over in Iraq and Afghanistan constantly in the last few years, we always make sure he knows how thankful we are to him and his fellow service men and woman all over the world for what they do, putting their lives on the line to try make a safer world.

A year ago today I was having my medical for my K1. There was ALOT of protesters outside of the US embassy in London.

What does the USA give to me? My husband.

Today we remember those who lost their lives on that awful day. We all remember what we were doing, where we were when it happened, I remember seeing the footage on tv and shivers going up and down my spine knowing these people were absolutely terrified and to those who tried to save as many as they could and lost their lives.

The main reason I love it is because that's where my partner lives. If she didn't live there.... I wouldn't be moving there - simple as that.

It just so happens, she lives in Arizona which is a beautiful place and I love it there too - Guess I'm just lucky to be able to combine two great things.
