This might not be anything if it wasn't for that "I pledge to be of service to Barak Obama" line in that PSA. Its kind of personal and they should have known he has some very strong opponants out there. I don't even know if this is related to that video or if the President had anything to do with it, but that's why you shouldn't let a guy who goes around playing practical jokes on celebraties for a living make an inspirational video.

As I recall, most people would not have trusted President Clinton to be alone with their daughter.

Obamer is getting such a reputation as a political con-artist that people don't trust him with their son ...or daughter.

That's sad.

Some times I think we should put all this politically inspired hostility aside and come together as a country.

Then I recall how Bush, flawed as he was, yet a decent human being, was savaged by literally every Democrat I knew.

Talk about Hate.... I've never seen nothing like it.

So now many feel compelled to face up to the fact that Civility no longer has a place, the time for measured fairness is a by-gone era.

Though Obama might be a nice guy, he in every way represents the Left that wants to remake this country into something we don't want, and the Left.... who abide in their clusters of like minded people will be stunned.... at how many normal everyday conservative-leaning people there still are in this country.

Anyone who has an issue with this has to be the dumbest person to roam the freagin planet. I heard some folks at work complaining and waiting to take their kids out. So I couldn't resist and said you seriously have to be on the verge of mental retardation to have an issue with this. Straight into the mangers office it was for me.

Not only does this disrespect the president but more importantly, what does it teach kids? That you just ignore anyone with opposing views. That Russian guy who predicted the breakup of the US doesn't seem that crazy after all.

The Principal’s Soapbox

I’ve had a few parents contact me with what appears to me as extreme emotional reactions to the thought that students might be asked to watch or listen to President Obama’s speech on September 8th. I’m not sure what it is that parents fear their sons and daughters might hear from President Obama; therefore, I lack the understanding of such reactions.

As I understand it, President Obama’s speech is about staying in school and earning the high school diploma. I have not read the speech—as it will be posted later today—but I understand that he will talk about the obstacles that he had to overcome and how his success all began with a high school diploma. These are good words for all students to hear. I want to see 100% of our students earn their high school diploma and move on to some form of post-secondary education. I believe we all want that, so I’m having trouble trying to understand why some people are opposed to the message.

Another reason that I am having trouble understanding the resistance is because we live in America, a country founded upon democratic principles. Very basic to democracy is the ability and willingness of the citizens to consider the ideas of others from a position of suspended judgment. When we suspend judgment, we are able to consider varying perspectives and are then better able to determine whether we agree with a perspective or not. This is a process called reasoning and comes from a process called critical thinking. Therefore, rejecting President Obama’s message without hearing it is committing an act against reason and against critical thinking. I cannot fathom why anyone would act in such a way.

What are you talking about Danno? This is embarrassing. Obama is trying to speak to the kids to motivate them for the new year, yet Repubs turn it around and use this as a opportunity to, once again, disingenuously accuse him or plotting to corrupt the kids.

Funny thing is that I thought repubs hate government. So why not home-school or put your kids into private schools?

For starters, Obama's message, as described in a press release from Ed Sec Arne Duncan, will stick to anodyne topics like the need to work hard and take responsibility for one's own success (which once upon a time were values Republicans could cheer.)

I've got no problem that message. Most liberals have hated the "pull yourself up" line for years as ####### as they know minority kids can't succeed because racism and economic inequalities will doom kids' chances.

Does anyone really believe Obama is going inspire kids to succeed in school just because he's the new cheerleader? The real life message of Obama is that a minority member can achieve the highest office in the land and do just as crappy a job as a white president.

I had a teacher at college that pushed his conservative Republican religious agenda. It was in a class that was suppose to study the bible as a literary work, not as a religious guide. He didn't seem to understand that though.

It is very inexpensive to homeschool your kids. Also there is plenty of charter schools in my state and alot of others that you can enroll your children in. They provide all the books, supplies etc that you pick out yourselves (or with an educational coordinator if you need help). You can even use religious materials. Some charters will even buy you a computer and pay for internet connections so your children can do online activities.

Personally I think this is just one more media story overblowing a vocal minority. Most people know this is no big deal.

The republicans lost the election and are feeling powerless and using any means at their disposal to remain relevant. Good for them. I think they are doing a great job staying in the spotlight. This election could have really sank them completely. They have been fighting tooth and nail to keep some sort a position in Washington. While their scare and intimidation tactics may piss off the other side (me included), it is working on some of the Independants and more moderate Republicans. Guess we will have to wait and see if it can carry them to a regain of seats in the midterm elections.

No one was pushing views I agreed with. I grew up in a WAY conservative, all white area.

All Obama has to do is to quit sending our money to Iraq and Afghanistan and return it back to the states. Cost of tuition has skyrocketed since 9/11, what our kids don't need is more BS, they need money. It takes money to do to school.

Going to a university bookstore is highway robbery for what they want for that ####### they are teaching, and you have to pay those prices and buy those books to attend class. More BS is only letting parents deduct $4,000.00 from their taxes for tuition payments while also being robbed on property taxes.

It's all BS, pure unadulterated BS.

Why would part of this address to students divert into to students being assigned to write a paper on "How I can help the President"?

Of course due to objections they have changed the wording, but is Obama himself behind this type of "Everything is about me" tone or the worshiping people who surround him?

Again, I think many on the right are over reacting about this, in fact knowing what we know about the Obama Klan, if the Right were clever, they would have kept their mouth shut until after he spoke and Then... they would have had more political Ammo to sling. (politically speaking)

I think the President addressing students is a good idea I just wish Obama could get it right by making it about education and service to country in broad terms.
