So, my fiancee had her interview and paid to get her passport with the visa ...

... now what? Everything was easy until now (there were clear instructions), but there is no instruction manual for the next steps. What now?

She arrives in US

If you get married then you file for AOS (see AOS instructions)

You have everything worked out on when she arrives?

You have discussed the marriage already?

You have the funds for the AOS?

Thank you for the replies, but based on the answers I guess that I did not explain my question correctly ...

... my concern is another. I asked "now what" because these imported goods do not come with a "User's Manual." Therefore, it will be an entirely new learning experience.

1. Make sure you keep the receipt

2. Make sure you document any damage

3. Usually you can return within 90 days

4. Buy the extended warranty, in case something breaks

5. Just like a used car there will lots and lots and lots of expenses for ongoing maintenance.

6. Remember if you buy 3 the 4th one is FREE

7. YMMV

8. Have lots of patience while you are learning to work the controls

9. If you see a shiny new model, the costs associated with disposal, may out weight the benefits of the new model.

10. Anyone who gives you advice is an A**hat!!!

Are you implying that they do not come with "Money Back Guarantee?" :crying:

By the way, what is YMMV?

YMMV = your mileage may vary i.e. 28 City 34 Highway, YMMV.

I wish there was a money back guarantee, I could use some cash right about now.

This is my favorite part of the VJ. The "now what?"

It's not going to be easy. It'll be great at times, horrible at others. But, I'm still chugging along and my wife's still here so it can't be too bad. My two bits of advice -

1. Do all the "guy stuff" you can right now. Watch football, drink beer, piss all over the toilet seat and leave it there, etc. Enjoy it.... cause it'll be gone soon.

2. Once she's here, be "the man of the house." You're not going to win every battle (and you'll have to clean the toilet sometimes) but if you stick to your guns and you let her know you're going to do what you're going to do because you're the man, then she'll be the lady. If you break up that dynamic and try to be all Americanized and "be attentive to your wife's needs" (read: spoil her and let her have her way all the time) then she'll walk all over you and find someone to meet at the "nap motel" to treat her like a man since you're obviously not filling those shoes. Put your foot down.

I agree wholeheartedly with #1, and mostly with #2. The test is differentiating between "needs" and "wants". Gender roles are much better defined in Eastern Europe than here, so once you see the pattern (ha), you can be very attentive without creating a monster. Handy tip - flowers are huge (do I hear some one puking? Slim - is that you?)

Now that's funny!

I actually bought flowers last week. I was heading out of town again for Appleseed (http://www.appleseedinfo.org) and I've realized over the course of the last year or so that if you're off doing "fun" stuff while your wife stays home working, it's a lot better to leave a clean house and flowers (and sometimes even a nice little note and bottle of wine) than to leave dirty dishes in the sink and a heap of laundry on the floor. So what if they're all her dishes (cause we eat fast food here in America - aint no mess, just throw the bag away, right?) and her clothes (you do know how to operate that machine, don't you?) because the point is, she should be happy and it's all your fault it didn't get done during the week when you were working 40 hours in 4 days.

Just keep in mind the happiness wears off before the flowers wilt and die. (And there'll be plenty more dishes to do and laundry to clean.... and it's probably about time to clean the tub, toilet and floor too. Get on it!)
